San Francisco, Cal., Sept. 8, In the Mission Street Pavilion tomorrow afternoon, before what promises to be one of the largest crowds that ever witnessed a pugilistic vent In San Francisco, Buttling Nelson, the formidable Dane, will step Into the arena to defend the lightweight championship against the man from whom he won the title In the same ring on July 4 last. 'His opponent will be Joe Claris, tho veteran negro lightweight, who held tho champion ship honors with ease until his sec ond encounter with tho Chicago lad. The bout is slated as a forty-five-round affair. According to the ar ticles, 70 per cent of the gate re ceipts will go to the flghterB, 60 per cent of that to the winner and 40 per cent to the loser. The weight will tie 133 pounds, ' stripped, ringside. Eddie Smith' will referee the contest. Reports from the NelBon camp to day aro to the effect that the Dane Is In tile best of condition add ready for tho gong to call lihu Into tho ring. Reports of the same rosy huo emanate from the Gans quarters. Whatever tho true condition of the negro may bo It is certain that he has trained for this fight as be never trained before. Several weeks in-the mountains and a period of strict training In quarters are said to have put' him-In the best possible shape. The hard training in which ho has Indulged and the fact that ho has been boxing better than be did when ho worked for his previous battle with Nelson has gven his admirers so much coafldence that they are bet ting freely on hint to beat the Dane. The Indications are that there will be plenty of betting at evua money at the ringside. however, and that he lacks the daz zling speed which has governed his previous' battles In this and other cities. After the fight Owen Moran said to the assembled newspapermen: "I broke my right hand In the sec ond round. After that it was almost useless. At that I think I won by a mile. I am wllllne to fight Attell 45 rounds, winner to take all." They Tuke the Killks Out "I have used Dr. King's New Life Pills for many years, with increasing satisfaction. He hiul a feline stride, the suillo of nu unspoiled boy, a fine brow, wide, clear eyes and a shrewd look of purpose. When Papko came In he also wore an old dressing gown and a boyish smile. Kotchel was freslily shaven, while Pnpke was un shaven. Kotchel wore the air of an undefeated conqueror and was plain ly tho great favorite of tho crowd, which hud been betting on him ut 2 1. When Ketcbel stepped to the cen tre for the second round It was seen tbut Ills right eye wns closed. At the next Intermission bis seconds lanced the eye socket und sucked the blood, but Ketchell never uguln regained the sight of bis right eye. Before the finish the other eye was all but clos ed, and for the lust three rounds he staggered ubout the ring, dizzy, like u drunken ninn, practically blind. The eleventh round was a repltl tlon of the tenth, with Papke ham mering Ketchell ut will and tho lat ter (daggering around the ring, un able to see. The gong saved him Just as ho was knocked through the ropes. After a minute of fighting In the 13th, Papke sent Ketchell to the unit twice, mid the second time the Mlch igander was counted out. Papke finished almost us strong as wben he entered the ring. Ketch ell presented n terrible spectuccle. Hotll 'eyes were swollen Into great black puffs and completely closed. Ills Ill's were swollen.
