The Lane County Grand Jury was discharged last evening, and the fin al report Is as follows: In the Circuit Court of the State of Oregon, In the County of Lane. Final report of the grand jury for the June term of said court, 1908. To the Honorable Circuit Court: We, the undersigned grand Jurors of the June term of the circuit court of said county, do respectfully submit this our final report, as such grand Jury: That, we have, to the best of our ability,' diligently inquired Into all crimes triable In said county, that have come to our knowledge and with as much expedition as was possible That we have examined the county hnUdlngs, located In Eugene, and find the court house kept In good condition, as well, also as the county Jail. .We concur In the recommen dation made by the last grand Jury In their final report as to the records being preserved in the upper part of the courthouse, and also in the mat ter of assessor's office,- being re-arranged so ns to expedite the business of that office. We also concur in the recommen dation of the last grand jury as to preparing a ceil, with other conven iences necessary, for the keeping of female prisoners. Andrews, the Junction City man, who was brought up from there yesterday, having been Indicted by the grand jury for selling liquor, entered a plea of guilty late yester day afternoon and was fined $100 and costs. The amount was paid and Andrews returned home on an eve ning train. EDGENE MAN . WAS CLASSMATE OF MR. SHERMAN There Is at h ast one man In Eu gene who is well acquainted with Mr. Sherman, the republican nominee for the vlce-presldemy. This Is Attor ney S. D. Allen, who was for four years a classmate 'of Mr. Sherman's at Hamilton College. Regarding Mr. Sherman, Mr. Al len says: "Upon graduation Mr. Sherman studied law, and after a little was elected mayor of the city of Utica, New York. At the cloBe of his term, or shortly thereafter, he was elected to Congress, to which body he has since been continually re-elected. Mr. Sherman Is a man of exemplary habits, a good talker, extremely popular with all his. asso ciates, but above all a shrewd, adroit politician. He has for many years been one of the republican managers in the house of representatives. He Is one of the beat parliamentarians In the country, and admirably quali fied to preside over the United States Senate. He has not practiced law, but has been engaged in busi ness, being president of the Utica Trust Company, and interested in the canning business. ' "Mr. Sherman is of the build of Mr Tart, but not quite so large or fleshy. His -full name is James Bchoocraft Sherman, but to all his friends and acquaintances he is "Jim" Sherman, one of the Jolliest, best natured men Imaginable."
