We have had a total registra tion this year of 1835 pupils, as against 1445 last year, nn Increase of 390. Of 1835 registered 875 were boys and 961 girls. This Increase in registration has called for more rooms and more teachers. All the rooms In the high school have been In use, one room fitted up and put to use In the basement ot '.he Central building, and a new building erect ed on tin Geary school grounds at n cost of $945. Durliia' the year, three grade tench nra and two high school teachers were added to the teaching force, making in all 43 as against is tne iirKvlnns venr. Owing to the increase in our population, the board a few months ago deemed It wise to purchase more ground for school pur noses, and accordingly a half block n mirchnsed In the lluddleston ad Hon. As that cale In whose bosom the bright waters meet; 0, the last rays of feeling and life muBt depart: 1 Ere the bloom of that valley shall fade from my heart. Yet It was not that nature had shed o'er the Bcene. Her purest of crystal and brightness of green: 'Twas not the soft magic of stream let or hill, 0, no, It was something more exquis ite, still. Twas that friends, the beloved of my bosom, were near. Who made every dear scene of en chantment more dear, And who felt how the best charms of Nature Improve, When we see them reflect from looks that we love. Sweet vale of Avocal how calm could I rest In thy bosom- of shade with the friends I love best. Where the storms that we feel in this cold world should cease. And our hearts, like the waters, be mingled In peace. Tom Moore.
