Pendleton, Or., June 14. For the
purpose of seeing that the prohibition

ization, was formed In this city yes
terday. There Is a charter member
ship of 200, and this will be increas
ed to more than 1000.
The organization will have its
headquarters In Pendleton, where the
president, secretary and treasurer
will reside, while there will be one
vice president In every precinct In
the country where there Is the least
possibility of an effort being made to
sell liquor In any manner.
The purpose is to assist the orricers
in enforcing the law. and to expose
and prosecute every officer who does
not enforce the law, also to work for

against 1445 last year, nn Increase of

boys and 961 girls. This Increase in
registration has called for more
rooms and more teachers. All the
rooms In the high school have been In
use, one room fitted up and put to
use In the basement ot '.he Central
building, and a new building erect

cost of $945.
Durliia' the year, three grade tench

During tho year the high schod1

course of construction, for $8965.
When comploied -the capacity of

THE MEETING OK THE WATERS.
There Is not In the wide world a val
ley so sweet.
As that cale In whose bosom the
bright waters meet;
0, the last rays of feeling and life
muBt depart: 1
Ere the bloom of that valley shall
fade from my heart.
Yet It was not that nature had shed
o'er the Bcene.
Her purest of crystal and brightness
of green:
'Twas not the soft magic of stream
let or hill,
0, no, It was something more exquis
ite, still.
Twas that friends, the beloved of
my bosom, were near.
Who made every dear scene of en
chantment more dear,
And who felt how the best charms of
Nature Improve,
When we see them reflect from
looks that we love.
Sweet vale of Avocal how calm could
I rest
In thy bosom- of shade with the
friends I love best.
Where the storms that we feel in this
cold world should cease.
And our hearts, like the waters, be
mingled In peace.
Tom Moore.
