Seattle, April 24. All railroads
hav? agreed to announce special
round trip excursion rates to and
from Seattle during tho reception
and excursion of the big battleship
fleet which will be In the harbor of
this city for four days next month.
Preparations for the entertain
ment of the officers and men of the
fleet and the visitors to the city dur
ing the stay of the warships are be
ing rapidly completed and the pro
gram which is now praclleally de
cided will provide tho most spectac
ular and entertaining series of ma
rine and land demonstrations ever
wltness?d In the Northwest.
On ilay 23rd there will be a grand
naval review and greeting to the
fleet as It enters Elliott Hay. Scores
of gaily decorated vessels will steam
out to meet the fleet as It becomes
visible from the harbor. Leading
the reception committees and a num
ber of visiting dignitaries Including
the governors of all the states of the
Northwest, and members of the Seat
tle chamber of commerce.
Through a double line of welcom
ing craft, the big warships will file
to their ancharageB In Seattle har
bor. As soon as Admiral Charles
N. Thomas' flagship, the Connecticut,
has reached its berth, she will be
boarded by the reception committee
accompanied by Governor Albert E.
Mead and Mayor John F. Miller, of
Seattle. As Boon as the official
greeting has been' given Admiral
Thomas, his officers and men will be
presented with the freedom of the
city as typified by a beautiful key
of virgin Alaska gold which will be
given to Admiral Thomas as a sou
venir of his vUlt here.
Immediately after the official
greetings will begin a program of
four days continuous entertainment
as follows:
Saturday night: Reception for the
officers at tho New Washington Ho
tol; grand ball for the sailors and
marines at Leschl Park pavllllon, un
der the auspices of the Seattle Vol
unteer Flremen'B Association and
City Fire Department. For tho pub
lic there will be band concerts at
Pioneer Place nnd on First Avenue,
and Pike Street, and brilliant fire
works on the bay, the latter provid
ed by the Japanese residents of Sea
ttle. Sunday afternoon: Automobir
irlp for the officers to Snoqualmlc
Pass, and luncheon at Snoqualmlc
Falls with return on special train;
Informer reception at Hauler, Uni
versity and Soattlo Athletic Clubs,
nnd a cruise by the Seattle Yacht

Woodland Park, and the .Alaska-Yukon
Pacific Exposition grounds.

companies of coast artillery from the
