When the chorus appears at the festival and stnKs the trying and in many respects difficult num bers of "Tho Holy City and "The Golden Legend", Eugene will hear the largest, best balanced chorus that lias yet assembled la this place There Is usually a weakness of tone in the male voice sections of the av erase chorus, but the male voices of the present aggregation number ov er one third of the 175 that compose that body and the power and the quality of the tenor and bass sec tions are unusually excellent. There are over sixty sopranos and over for y altos and the music that this uni ted body of singers will Interpret calls f;rth a volume of tone that, combined with the aceonltnnimen, Tf the t4 Instruments in the orches tra, will b at times all but ovor lMwerir., though at other titn-'s it will sink to the softest pianissinios. There hr.s been, especially during he last few years, great interest at tached to the music on Baccalaur eate Sunday at the University. On these occasions the choruses have never numbered over 40 voices, nor the orchestra over 21 pieces, yet people hnve packed Villard Hall al most to suffocation, many routine from out of town points, to hear the music of that day. But the effect nroducod by the music rendered a' those times cannot be compared to the wonderful impression that the music of the coming festival will produce. The chorus will be over four times as large as the Commence ment chorus, and the orchestra over thrc times as larse us tho Com mencement orchestra, and all of the orcnestra win ha professional mu sicians. There will be twetv-two siclans. There -will m twontv-two violins playing In unison. These with ten second violins, six violas six 'cellos, and four basses will make Corty-pight stringed instruments sslds from the harp. Then. In ad ditlon. tho quartet of French horns. and the regulation numbe of otliei umaa itnu wtiuu W1IIU 1 11HI TU IlieillS, with the usual Instruments of per cussion drums, etc., unite to round out one of the three greatest or chestras this country rail !'oast. This Is the character of the mu(i leal feast that is offered to the peo ple of Eugene and the tipper valley, at the April festival and already In quiries aro coming from out of town and letters telling of the desire to attend the festival and arranging for season tiCKets. At tho University iiretinrntlon have Already begun for ercti-nr inc monster elevated stage and platform to accomodate the two hundred and forty-four vocal and Instrumental musicians that together will partici pate In producing this great festival of music. This enlarging of the platform will consume about BOO square feet of thr floor space and reduce the seating capacity of Villard Hall very mater ially, but even then it will he the largest available auditorium, though it will accomodate only 900 people The seating capacity of the local theatre Is about (WO, and the theater has often been filled to Its cnpacltv. The festival Is to bo n-tvertlm-d ! posters and newspapers between Al bany and Ashland, Hnd tho altond ince from out of town points prom ises to be very larae. The fonlval management, however, Is providing for the accomodation of Its patrons y issuing season tickets that mav be subscribed for with solicitors or at "Burden and Craham's" Shor Store on Willamette street . These sonson tickets sell for three dollarr and entitle the holders to reserved seats nt all three concerts: and to the holders of the season tickets the reserved seat plat will be thrown 011 en six days before It Is otien to the genera public. At the last fesMvul five yarj ago, there were about fif teen hnn Ired seats reserved on sea son tickets before the g"nnrnl sale was opened. The management nt-nr-t'v wlibpa to accomodate first its largest patrons. ' rtland. which hns a f"stval lust bef-.r (. Kiig"un festival.
