a trip through tbe wueat district of
Eastern Washlnatoi. Be estimates
that the wheat crop IU be fully 20 yet
cent short on aciuot of very dry
weather just, at the time the wheat was
heading nicely. Fields which gave
promise of yielding 40 to 45 busbels to
tbe acre, will do well If they run ai
high as 25 aud 30. Tbe greatest shrink
age Is la the foot hills and valleys
where there is an enormous growth of
' raw, but tbe heads are small. Har
vesting is progressing pretty well, and
the grain is of good grade. Instead of
Washington bavinc a wheat orop of
30,000,000 busbels as was expeoted,
25,000,000 will be a high estimate.

Oregonian: There Is a firm tone to
tbe hop market, with considerable
business doiug in tbe way of new crop
contracts, the eon. (deration generally
being Ogjfljo, although a number of
contracts as high as 10c have been re
ported. The prospects for a light crop

materially. The Watarville Times,
