In the issue of the Daily Guard of Saturday, May 20, we called attention to speoiQo violations of the eleotion law by County Clork Lee in the arrangement of the official ballot to be voted Monday, Tune A. That charge of oflloinl violation of the law whioh County Clerk Leo took oath to ezeoute has boon re-iterated in the Guard, and given extensive circulation through out the county. And all these days County Clerk Lee has made no sign of being the possessor oi a conscience that would actuate hint to right the wrong gainBt Ms fellow citizen as far as might lie in his power. The Daily Register has kept silont as the grave regarding the ugly charges of official doreliotion of dutywith one exception, the issue of Sunday May 27. Under the head of "Impres sions" this was published on that date: "Just now the Guard thinks it has discovered a marti's nest p.nd is howling about the ballolB. Tbey do not seem to be printed to suit the fastidiouB fancy of the Guard. Meanwhile Clerk Lee continues his duties at the old stand despite the threats and calumnies of the noisy sheet that bases success for its party on its Benelens abuse of the most painstaking, careful and honest clerk Lane county ever had." What will the voter say about this "oareful and honest olerk" that by continuous silence makes vir tual confession of guilty and know ing violation of the law? TRYING TO SQUARE HIMSELF. County Clerk Lee got caught on his unlawful arrangement of tbe offloial ballot to be voted Monday. He makes no denial of the ugly charge made against him through the papers that ohampion his in terests. Yet his friends are show ing ballots that are printed cor reotly, and claiming tbey are of the kind that have been delivered to tbe judges of eleotion in tbe different preoinots. Those ballots are in sealed packages and may not be opened until the morning of the eleotion in the presence of the judges of eaob precinct. We publish affidavits of respon sible oitizens, today, that must be convincing of the truth ot our statements to any, but the most uncompromising partisan. It was bad enough to attempt to deceive the voter and gain an undue advantage through unlawful ar rangement of the ballot, but false hood and attempted deoeption of tbe people render the offense un pardonable. The joint affidavit made by L. L. Stevens and L. Bilyeu, published in this issue, is unimpeachable. It stamps E. U. Lee as an unfit, person to occupy the position of county clerk. The records of the county, that affect the the welfare of every citizen, are in charge of the county clerk. Will the fair-minded voter indorse such trickery and double dealing by casting his vote for E. U. Lee? You will have your ay at the polls Monday. A whole some regard for honesty and probity in official life de mands that E. U. Lee be re tired from the position that he has proven himself un worthy to hold. Thirty thousand veterans of the oivil war paBsed to tbe misty other shore last year. Tbe last survivor of the war of 1812 died, last sum mer, seventy five years after the close of the war. On this basis of calculation a few oivil war veterans may survive in 1940. Suoh figures mook our faith in statements that life is transitory and fleeting. Make no mistake in marking your ballot. Make a oross between the number on the ballot and the name ot the candidate you deaire to vote for. No scratching tlokets. If you do you will lose your vote. Simply make a oross mark before the names you vote for. The White Man's Burden can be named In the single word dys pepsia. It is the one disease, which more man any otlier.Rttccti the American people. It is common to all classes and all condi tions. It makes life miserable. It mars family happiness. It interferes with busi ness and pleasure alike, and it discounts a man's usefulness just as much as it discounts his happi ness. There's a remedy for dyspepsia. The overflowing sympathy of Republican editors for Populists whom they olaim are being drawn into the Demooratio drag-net is fitly illustrated by this news item from tbe Corvallis Times of May 30: "The moBt patbetio thing seen in forty years was a subscription in oiroulation yesterday afternonn among tbe republicans for the !mim band to play for the middle ol i In road populist who Bpoke at me courthouse last night. The goil old brethren pungled n the necessary $10, and thus the repub lican party falls into the alaiin!.er arms of the middleof-the-ro idt-rn in a love-lit and lip-Incked hiBinn. It is either awfully patbetio or it w anoommonly funny." Naval experts having mude t projectile with a soft steel c ip that will pieroe any armor, if fairly struck, have the pleasant job before them of inventing armor plate that will withstand tbe newly invented shell. Would Not Suffer So Again Fifty Times Its Price. for I awoke last night with severe pains In my itomaob. I never felt so badly In all my life. When I came down to work this morning I felt so weak I could hardly work. I went to Miller 4 McCurdy's drug store and they rec ommended Chamberlain's fjollo, Choi era and Diarrhoea Remedy. It worked like maglo and one dose fixed me all right It certainly Is tbe finest tblng I ever used for stomach trouble. I shall not be without it In my house here' after, for I should not care to endure the suflerlngs of last night again for fifty Hues Its price. G. H. Wilson.
