The Portland, Eugene A Eastern Company was granted a franchise last Vctober covering certain streets In the city of Salem, and was allowed •lx months Him- In which to com mence construction, ami in addition to a 35000 bond required that two ■miles of the elty system should be In MtU*l operation within eighteen months after construction started. The right of way over Salem streets 1s largely confined to Outside thor oughfares, and particularly suitable for heavy Interurban traffic. A line up Centre street to Bummer, north to city boundary at the fair grounds, and a tin»- up Ferry and over to Berry street and from there to the limits, practically oevers the Important atreets of the city. He instituted baptism as the means to that end. ' The Catholic church, following the example of the Master, takes to her bosom the little children and applies to the sacrament which he instituted to make them partakers of the king dom of heaven. If nothing defiled can enter heaven, and If the souls of children are defiled with original sin, how else can they become partakers of God's kingdom? “St. Paul understood the necessity of baptism for children, as is evident from his epistles, unless we contend ALBERT CUTLER. that race suicide was as prevalent in Expert bllllardist who contested In his time as It Is now.
