Lisbon, Feb. 4.—Changes In ’he
Portuguese ministry ar« so rapid that
it is difficult to tell what the final
composition of the cabinet will be.
The ministry of yesterday was super

Martial law and th« suspension of

prevent a recurrence of the disorders.

INFANT BAPTISM
Speaking at the Catholic churrh

from the Scriptures, that the sin of
Adam attached to the soul ,f every

“Christ, the Saviour, came to take

he said. “He is the 'Lamb of God’
who taketh away the sins of the
world. He instituted baptism as the
means to that end. His words to Nic
odemus, 'Amen, amen, I say to thee,
unless a man be born again of water
and of the Holy Ghost he cannot en-
teu the kingdom of God,’ could not be
clearer. JThese words embrace the
whole human race, without regard to
age or sex, and mean mankind in its
broadt'st sense. If we make a dis
tinction of age, why not of sex’ If
we exclude children, why not also
women?
' The Catholic church,following the
example of the Master, takes to her
bosom the little children and applies
to the sacrament which he instituted
to make them partakers of the king
dom of heaven.
If nothing defiled
can enter heaven, and If the souls of
children are defiled with original sin,
how else can they become partakers
of God's kingdom?
