Grier, of the Falls City Lumber Company, were in Dallas, Wednesday enroute for Portland. Mrs. Ella J. Metzger went to Lafay ette, Wednesday, for a short visit, and will go from that place to Portland for a few days' stay. Walter Barham returned to Dallas, Wednesday, from Eenewiok, Wash ington, and has decided to remain in this city during the coming summer. Eerslake & White have seoured several new rolls for their electric organ at the Colosseum rink, and the new pieces of musio are proving to be quite an attraction. j Mrs. Dora Templeton, of Prlnevllle, is visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Sweeney and niece, Miss Dessa Bidgeway were Portland visitors this week. A good dinner, with hot coffee, will be served on the grounds at the Oak Grove picnic, Saturday, June 13. The resignation of W. G. Campbell from the position of night watohman was accepted by the City Council, Wednesday night, no successor being appointed. It Many Dallas people will attend the school picnio at Bickreall today. The ceremony of unveiling the monument on the spot where the first school house stood, will take place . this afternoon at 3 o'clock. W. B. Snow, of Portland, a repre sentative of the Arnold Carnival Com pany, was in Dallas yesterday, dis cussing plans with the business men of this city for the prospective street fair and carnival to be held this month. Messrs. Cooper & Whiteside, of Cor vallis, have applied to the City Coun cil for a permanent license to install and operate a moving picture theater in Dallas, similar to the vaudette in Salem, and to other places of amuse ment in most of the larger towns In the Willamette Valley. Ivan Smith, foreman of the Willam ette Valley sawmill, accompanied by Mrs. Smith and two children, returned Tuesday evening from Portland, where he had undergone an operation for appendicitis. The operation was quite successful and Mr. Smith will probably be sufficiently recovered to resume his work in a short time. Dallas is again without a night watchman. No blame can be attached to the council for refusing to employ an officer, as It will be necessary to cut every possible expense until a higher tax levy can be made next year. However, as little street and crosswalk work will be done by the city this summer, it would seem like the council could afford to come to the rescue by putting the day marshal on the night shirt.
