A party of tlmbermen passed through Dallas yesterday, enroute for Port land, after a short timber cruising expedition in theSlletz Basin. Prescott Simonton is recovering from the effects of his recent Inlury, while employed in the sawmill, and hopes to be able to reume his work within a short time. Dr. S. T. Donohoe has been carry ing all the outward appearances of a perfect case of the mumps for several days, but he has fortunately not been confined to bis room. SCHEDULE IS CHANGED Dallas-Falls City Railroad Will Adopt New Time Card, April 1. Commencing April J, a new train schedule will be In effect on the Dal las & H'alls City Bailroad. The morn Ing train will leave Dallas at 7 :10, five minutes earlier than at present, and wi 11 arrive at Falls City at 7 -.50 a. Eeturning, it will leave Falls City at 10:10 a. m. and atrive in Dallas 10 :55. The afternoon train will leave Dallas at 1 :15 p. m., instead of at o clock, and will arrive in Falls City at 1 :55. Eeturning, it will leave Falls City at 4:20, and arrive in Dallas at 6 :05 p. m. The agent at Falls City will receive freight for Black Eock from 7 :30 a. m to 5:30 p. m., each day, for shipment on the first train of the following morning. Perishable freight only will be received up to train time each morning. Only one round-trip freight train will be operated each day between the two last-named stations. 3, E. He has Just returned from a several weeks' business visit in the Eastern States. He is well pleased with his new location in Independence. J. E. Yoakum will hold a public auction of livestock at thg Keyt Dairy Farm near McCoy, tomorrow (Satur day) at 10 a. m. Among the animals for sale are 15 Jersey cows, 11 heifers (yearlings and 2-year-olds), 60 Berk shire hogs and 1 Jersey bull. All animals are thoroughbreds. M. F. White, of Eickreall, will act as auctioneer. Belden Grant, a former resident of Dallas, has been in this city this week traveling in the interest of Sig Sichel'i cigar company. He still has his arm in a sling, as a result of the recent railway accident near Forest Grove. Editor Fiske Is again confined to his room by illness, and his physician tnintts &e will not be able to resume his office work for Beveral days. The many friends of the jovial Captain will sympathize with him in his mis fortune. Lee Smith returned Tuesday night from Portland, where he has been attending to business concerning land claims in the Siletz .Basin. He says that the contestant in the case of his Bister's claim has withdrawn, and that she will now have little trouble in securing her patent. Peter Dyck, a well-known German resident of Dallas, is circulating a petition for his candidacy for the office of County Treasurer, and is receiving numerous assurances of support from E. E. Williams and G. N. Cherring ton. Already, Peter can almost see himself sitting on the county's strong box. The office of the Willamette Valley Electrio Company has been greatly Improved this week by the addition of new desks and counters beautifully finished with old oak stain. Seymour submits the following report of the public schools of Polk County, for the month of February : Number of pupils In attendance, 2470, of which 1274 were boys, and 1191 were girls, In the following districts there were no tardies reported : Bed Prairie, Val ley View, Oak Grove, Fairvlew, Eick- real, Oakdale and Liberty. Arrangements were completed Wed nesday night for a game of basketball between the "Eedwings" of the Mult nomah Athletio Club, and the Second team of Dallas College, to be played on the local floor Saturday night These two teams are among the fastest of the junior aggregations of Oregon and a close and interesting contest is anticipated. Frank Eerslake, the auctioneer, will sell the personal property belonging to the estate of the late A. J. Peterson next Thursday afternoon, at 2 o'clock, The sale will be held at the farm on the Oakdale road, two miles west of Dallas. The property to be sold Includes one team of work horses, three cows with calves, two heifers, two pigs, wheat, hay, farming imple ments, and household goods. Through correspondence with the military board of the State of Oregon, D. Chorpening finds that it is necessary for him to have the ages of all of the boys desiring enlistment in the prospective militia company. He requests that you call on him at the Electric Light office and give your age as soon as possible, as the list must be in the bands of the military board before the first of April. Hon. W. C. Brown says that he will have the work of digging for coal on his property in North Dallas com menced immediately when the weather has cleared sufficiently to permit teady work. The specimens of coal secured In former excavations were mostly of an excellent grade of lignite coal, and the nature of the land in North Dallas and vicinity indicates the probable presence of a large de posit of that formation. Horatio Morrison has a new lodge emblem of which he Is justly proud It is a veteran's jewel charm, and was lsused to him by the Sovereign Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows. These jewels are conferred upon men who have been members of the order for 25 con secutive vears. Mr. Morrison has been a member of Friendship Lodge, o. 6, of Dallas, continuously since 1882. The charm la made of 14k. gold, and is a beautiful piece of workman- hip. It is beautifully enameled in red and gold, with the number "25" landing out In bold relief on a white star. The jewel Is a handsome and ppropriate keepsake. When It was found that Claud Shaw would be enable to play In the pro posed game between Dallas College and Snohomish, a telegram was sent to the latter requesting that the game scheduled for tomorrow might be either postponed or called off.
