Polk County Observer J. O. HAYTER, EDITOR AND PUBLISHER. Published Seml-Weekljr at 11.50 per Year. Strictly in Advance. Entered as second-clans matter March 1. 1907, at the post office at Dallas, Oregon, under the Act or (JongreKf of March 3, 1879. DALLAS, OREGON, March 27, 1908. The way to build up Dallas is to pat ronize Dallas people. ATTITUDE IS UNCHANGED Senator Fulton Says He Hag at Time Opposed Statement No. 1. No The day of the political machine in Oregon iBOver. Allofthoold machine men at least tacitly acknowledge this, yet we find a few still struggling to get the old thing in some sort of motion and trying to got tip steam with "Republican patriotism" as fuel. This coterie of grasping hackneys don't know how to pose as gladiators, but seek to run the whole show with puppets on the stage and themselves behind the scenes. Is It any wonder that the people got tired of being the applauding audience. Woodburn Independent. The study of practical agriculture, which has been for two years one of the primary aims for which the Polk County School Children's Industrial Pair was conducted, Is being Intro duced Into the Albany public schools through the efforts of Superintendent A. M. Sanders. Prof Sanders has personally offered a series of prizes for the purpose of arouslncr interest along the line Denying emphatically that be has changed his position on Statement No. 1 or any other Issue before the people, United States Senator Fulton reached Portland last night from Washington, personally to conductbiscampaign for reoomlnatlon and re-election. While he has not formulated a definite cam paign programme. It will be the pur pose of Senator Fulton to cover the entire state as thoroughly as it will be possiDie in tne tnree snort weeks pre ceding the primary nominating elec tion, which will be held April 17. The Henater will confer with his friends In Portland today and arrange an Itiner ary that will best suit the limited time he has at his disposal, but It is his Intention to address as many people throughout the state as be can. Discussing the reports that be has modified his position as to Statement No. l, Senator Fulton reiterated that his attitude on that subject was the same as he bad declared in a public address at Uorvallis last summer ; that while he believed and always had believed that the people should elect their United States Senators, the ques tion of subscribing to Statement No. 1 was purely a matter of Individual conscience. He said : ' I have made no statement for pub lication since arriving In the state and any statement to the effect that I have changed my attitude In regard to.State- ment no. 1 is Incorrect. I have stated to friends since arriving In the state, when informed that I was credited witn Deing opposed to Statement No. 1. that the roport is a mistake, for I am not and never have opposed It. The only public utterance I have ever given on the subject was In a speech I delivered at Corvallls last Summer, In which I said, being a candidate for re-election, I did not deem it mv dutv to attempt to Instruct candidates for Cow For Sale.
