Gentlemen : — Being entirely cured o f deafnens, thanks to your treatment, I w ill now give yom • fu iull ll history o f my case, to be used at your uiscreiion. discretion. __ . lf4i4 About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost y hearing in this ear entirely. . . .. . __ I 1 underwent a nura^ uuuri « m i a treatment iicaiiiivu i for catarrh, for three months, without any . / success, , . True the site was once occupied by the house a duke o f Buckingham built therein in 1703. But that occupation does not seem to Impose the name o f a subject upon a residence bought by George I I I , rebuilt by George IV and, though disliked by W illiam IV, at once adopt ed by Queen Victoria as her London residence, and now, the Axed head quarters o f the king and the prospec tive headquarters, o f our kings to be. No wonder that foreign visitors are ! puzzled by the unexplained retention o f a form er and long irrevelant appel lation. T h ey ask for the I’alais Royal and are met with a blank stare, a shake o f the head, or a statement which leaves a proportion o f them | under the supposition that his majesty I is the guest o f the duke o f Bucking- \ ham. Scarcely less appropriate would be a cancelling at last o f the name o f Marlborough house as applied to the new hereditary residence o f the heirs apparent. Marlborough Is a great name, it Is true; but It is a name that the present owner has a very natural right to put up on the lintels o f the new house he is building In Curzon street. No disrespect, then. Is implied toward the great duke o f Marlborough who built it in the tirst decade of the eighteenth century, and gave “ Sarah, duchess,” the right to point over the w a y to Buckingham palace and to speak 'of “ Neighbor George.” In 1817 it was bought from the Churchills for the Princess Charlotte and Leopold, afterw ard king of the Belgians. Later Queen Adelaide was its occupant. Her name or his would be at least as apt as that o f Marlborough for the house Hon.
