About noon Friday an old man maiued D Martin, was knocked from the railroad trestle across Calapooia creek just north of Oakland, and killed. The deceased was about 60 years of age and had been about town for a day or two, and seernod partially demented. He had started north aioot, and was on the long trestle when the stub train which left Roseburg on the schedule of the northbouud local overtook him. He crawled down on one of the projecting supports but as the second car came by he raised his head and was struck by the car steps, knocking Lina into tho water below. A slight struggle or two followed and all was over. It was thought that he was employed with Anderson’s gang on the S P R R., lest summer, but nothing is known as to his antecedents, or where he claimed his home.
