FRIDAY. - - M arch 21 1902. For a whipped people the Boers continue to make it interesting for the Britishers. Senator Tillman might have re plied as the Quaker did. My friend I have not enough confidence in thee to believe what thou sayest.” The Oregonian offers some ex cellent advise to the majority wing o f the Multhnomah republicans when it tells them they should give their vanquished enemies recogni tion. But since (here is not enough offices to satisfy all those who are hungry and thirsty to feed at the public trough, it is safe to predict the advice will not bo followed. and out o f the way, whom will the republicans center on for senator? Certain it is their convention on April 2nd will not name a man, for they have no one man on whom all can agree. They w ill therefore leave the senatorial muddle to con fuse the 1903 session of the legis lature to be made a commodity of barter and trade. The democrats o f Oregon, when they meet in state convention can do no wiser thing than nominate some good man for United States senator. Possibly he will not be elected, in fact the ehanc<*8 are decidely against it because of the large number ot repubican holdover state senators ; hut naming a man will arid strength to the legislative ticket, in that it will be a pledge to the voters o f what they may depend upon. The brave and irrepressible Boers have won another grand victory. Every patriotic lover of liberty it glad of it. As yet Amcri cans are not being branded as out laws for sympathizing with the Boers. I f American sympathy was powder and shell the Boer republics would be victorious in short order. Real Americans remember their birthright. God help the Roots. -SPE C IA L SPR EN G S T Y L E S j irr N e w G o o d s 1 D?mjcratic County Convention Notice is hereby given that the Lane county democratic county con vention will meet on Saturday, the 5th day of April, 1902, at 10 o’clock a m at the courthouse iu Eugene.
