The machinery was ready before tho
proclamation, as it bus been known
for some time that honorably dis­
charged
soldiers,
sailors,
and
marines would be allowed to enter
homesteads through an agent, whilo
others could only do so iu person,
and the general land laws gives ex­
soldiers ami sailors credit for tho
time they served in the army tr
navy iu counting the time necessary
for residence on a
homestead
claim in order to acijuiro title, while
all others must reside thereon for
five years. That was all the land
pirates, who are plentiful iu Wash­
ington, wanted to know. They be
gan hunting up the records of the
honorably discharged soldiers and
sailors, with three or more years
service to their credit, and to make
deals with them to have homestead
entries made in their names, and as
soon as the proclamation was issued
they began telegraphing tho names
of these bogus homesteaders to their
agent« iu Oklahoma, who will file
the applications. Those applications
which drew desirable land in the
lottery to be held next month the
pirateb will hold on to by purchas­
ing the claim of the soldier or sailor
in whose name it is registered.

SOME FACTS.

There has been a great deal writ­
ten from time to time upon the
prospects and probable outlook for
the Bohemia mines. This is not
only so with Bohemia, but so with
all other mining camps of any note.
Glowing write-ups of rich discov­
eries, scuantional stories of fabulous
finds and wonderful assays have too
frequently found their way into
public priut for the good, not only
of the camps themselves, but for the
good of the people at large. Every
mining camp has hud to outlivo
these kind of booms and Bottle down
to hard work and steady develop­
ment before any great amount of
good has been accomplished. We
believe Bohemia lias passed through
this stage of the game and is now
getting down to a more solid basis.
If it has there is no reason to doubt
the camps permanency. The zeal
and energy displayed by the differ­
ent mine owners and prospectors
throughout the camp, who aro say-
ng but little and working bard de­
veloping their claims and preparing
for a long and steady pull, speaks
volumes for Bohemia. The occa­
sional salo of good property at a fair
figure to large companies shows a
confidence in'the camps possibilities
that outweighs all the cock and bull
stories of fabulous finds that find
their way into priut, so far us men of
means are concerned, and that such
men more readily tako hold of min­
ing property after careful investiga­
tion into a well developed claim
than they do of the boomer’s pros­
pect whose only showing is found
on the certificate of a rich assay,
goes without saying. We believe
Bohemia is on the road to success at
last and there is more renauu s*
rejoice at the camp’ s prospect today
than ever before.
Strong efforts are being mndo by
the big interests behind the publica­
tions, fako and otherwise, that are
getting tho benefit of the $30,000,-
000 a year the government loses by
carrying at second class rates publi­
cations not entitled to be In that
class, to frighten Postmaster Gen­
eral Smith into not issuing the an­
nounced order defining moro strict­
ly tho requirements to bo exacted of
publications carried for one cent a
pound. Mr. Smith says tho order
will be issued, and thnt it will
accomplish its purpose, but it will
be just as well to wait and see be­
fore giving liim credit for possessing
the-courage to resist the influences
which desire to go on profiting at
the people’s loss. If it l.e the real
thing, the country will know it.

has been working at Saginaw, mills
had the misfortune to get the back
of bis neck badly cut while working
with an axe, Thursday, just os he
raised to strike the axe hit a cable
and flew back striking him on the
back of the neck, making a

wound. He was brought to town,
and Dr Job dressed the wound and
at last account he was getting along
as well os could bo expected.

house of W:n Landess about three
quarters of arnile from town was
destroyed by fire. The household
goeds were saved but the house
