The funeral was held Monday, interment being made at Pleasant Hill, Rev. Benton, of Ivugeue, con ducting the services. A large num ber of friends were present, 17 go ing from Cottage Grove. Mrs. Read was horn in White County, Illinois, in 1843, her maid en name being I.uciuda A. Hall. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Hall. She was married to 1). Read in 1863. They moved to Kansas iu 1863 and to Crescent Hill, Ore., in 1890, just 21 years to the day previous to the date of her funeral. In 1907 Mr. and Mrs. Read moved to Cottage Grove. Four children were born to the couple, the two living ones being 0 Mrs. Ora lletnenway, of this city, and Dr. S. I). Read, of Kugetie. In her maiden days Mrs. Read 6 was a school teacher. The latter < 2 ? part of her life was devoted to Chris tian and Benevolent work, becom ing well known through l iregon ß< because of her activities iu the C. W. B.
