A t the rate im m igra tion is com ing to the coast a sim i lar com mittee would have its hands full in welcoming new people. In some places the w om en’s clubs have m ade it a point to prom ptly call upon the new ladies. You have more to do with m aking it a happy and pros perous new year th a n anybody else. Let your first resolve be that during 1909 you will add one new citizen to the population of C ottage Grove. A fire alarm was turned in Sun day afternoon when smoke was seen issuing from the building on the corner of M ain and Fifth street receutly vacated by L incoln's m eat m ark et and w hich only re cently was purchased by Messrs. T he fire seem* to have originated from a llue in tile partition between the m eat m ark et building and the shoe-shop adjoining and was diffi cult to reach by the fire laddies who were on hand prom ptly and had two stream s playing on the flames, the fire being extinguished before m uch dam age was done.
