By Zach Silva zsilva@cgsentinel.com The Cottage Grove boys and girls basketball teams travelled to the Seaside Holiday Classic last weekend where both teams went 2-1 on the trip. In their opening game against Elma, a team from Washing- ton, the Lions caught fi re from downtown as they hit 19 threes on their way to an 84-40 victo- ry. Trenton Grover was the lead- ing scorer for the Lions with 27 points including fi ve threes in the fourth quarter. The Lions lost their second game 56-46 to Seaside, last year’s state cham- pions. Cottage Grove then defeat- ed Montesano, another school from Washington, 59-56 to take third place at the tournament. Jesse Ellingworth had 16 points and Grover added 13 in that game. For the girls team, the week- end started off with a 49-30 loss to Elma. Cottage Grove’s Reil- ly Kelty had 17 points and nine rebounds in the loss. Kelty led the team with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Ke- ara Murphy added in 10 points.
