Speed display trailer Street sweeper repair Maintenance staff at the City Shop have been servicing the speed display trailer. Several months ago the trailer had been serviced and new batteries had been installed but the perfor- mance of the trailer was very poor and the batteries would run down in just a few hours. Staff checked out the trailer for obvi- ous electrical problems and re- placed the batteries again with a different brand. (The City says it had stopped using the previous brand of bat- teries because of poor perfor- mance in other equipment). Residents may have noticed that the City’s street sweeper has not been sweeping the streets for the past few weeks, and the City says this is because the auxiliary engine that powers the sweeper’s brooms and other mechanical functions developed a coolant leak and needed to be repaired. The repair was com- pleted in-house and the sweeper should be back on the streets by next week. Public Works allo- cated funds in the Fiscal Year 2015-2016 budget to replace the current 2007 Elgin street sweeper. Once the new sweeper is ordered, delivery of the new unit will occur within three to four months. Don’t withdraw and sulk or isolate yourself from others.
