Under Quarantine State Veterinarian Sayi; No Such Order Issuedr May In crease Bounty. State Veterinarian W. H. Lytle who was in the city, Friday, says no quarantine has been made, on Wallowa county stock, and none, will be If the order for muzzling dogs Is strictly obeyed. Dr. Lytle says the Gaskill & True horses' were not - quarantined at the Portland yards on account of rabies among coyotea in this county, or he would have heard of it. '.. $20114 66 COUNTY COURT MEMBERS ENDORSE GOOD ROADS. Judge J. B. Olmsted returned Wednesday from Portland where he had been attending the state meet ing of the county judges and com missioners. L. Couch of Wallowa, who was in. Portland on other bust ness, also attended. Mr. Olmsted says It was an Inter esting session, and of profit to all who attended because of the inter change of views and experiences. Th meeting endorsed the five highway measures now before the legislature, Oregon'9 first step toward good roads. The same man canvassed Joseph under the name of H, E. Larson. That he found many to bite at the alluring bait is evidenced by the big roll found on him when he was ar rested' over $240. BOUND TO GRAND JURY ON SERIOUS CHARGE. Alvln Harris of near Lostlne was arrested Wednesday for shooting a boy maimed Fred J. Jacob oni Decem ber 10 last. At a preliminary hearing before Justice Goodman, , Thursday, he was bound over to the grand jury under $1000 bonds on the charge of assault with deadly weapon. Chris Cook, a material witness, (was put under $250 bonds. The story of the shooting as giv en at the hearing is, that several fellowa were hazing the Jacob boy. and Harris amused himself by shoot lng near the lad's feet, one bullet finally entering the upper part of the leg near the groin. The. matter was hushed up and .never became known to the authorities until a few days ago. The wound healed but lately in ternal suppuration started and the boy la in a bad1 way, likely to die.
