The concent given Saturday night at the opera house by home talent, under the very able direction of A. J. Boehmer, was a glad surprise to everyone in attendance. Mr. Boeh mer had given his time and careful work to the training of the big choruses and to several other feat ures of the concert, and had assumed the responaltllJtty for its success. It proved such a success as to ee ' lection of takiDt and as to perform- an that Mr. Boehmer has the grat . ltude of every one who heard the program, This Is so much In manifestation , that just now Mr. Boehmer 1 being importuned by many to put on "Pin afore", made up of home talent. That he will consent to do to, or will not consent to do so, Is not de termined at present. The concert from the opening cho rus to the close was probably the best array of local talent ever staged by Enterprise. The choruses held their volume without losing their ex treme sweetness, and the special number of the program, such as solos and duets, were encored, In every particular, as also were -the readings. Those who kindly gave their time to the mualcale may welt feel doubly paid by the success of k and by) the large attendance which It drew. joseph loses to, this; city in ball game What has been generally pro nounced the best bail game ever What Can You Expect? What can you expect your business to amount to withe ut a Telephone? Do you suppose a customer will lose time running after you when you can call your compet itor by 'phone? Home Independent Telephone Co. played In Enterprise, was played last Sunday between the Joseph, and Enterprise teams. The score at the close stood 1 to 0 in favor of. Enter prise. Old fans who know 'he game as thoroughly as they know their A, B, C, claim they never wktnesed as clean and clear-cut a game in Wallowa county. The Jo seph boys need - have no scruples over such a defeat. They put upj e atrong game in every particular, singularly free from errors, and made our own boys play ball from start to finish. But the Enterprise team work was a little too much at least a score too much for the visitors. This game has tloae more to encour age deep enthusiasm for baseball in this section, of the county than- any other game In the county's history. SPECIAL MEETING OF IMPROVEMENT LEAGUE The Improvement League will hold a special meeting Tuesday, MaylO, at 3 p. in, at the home of Airs, B. B. Boyd, for the purpose of discuss ing plans for work In the cemetery. Ic is hoped three will be a large at tendance of all interested In this work. New Court House . Is Now Occupied County Officials Wear Happyi Smites and Stcjp More Briskly Than Usual. If you see a gentleman walking down any street in Enterprise, wear ing the sort of smile that "won't come off," put it down and keep R down, that he Is a county official. For every county official la happy from this time forth. The various county offices have been moved Into the new court house, and although the new furniture has not yet ar rived, the officials are happy any way. The new court bouse la enough to make anybody happy. She Is what the parlance of the day would call a "humdinger" a humdinger being everything that could be desired' In a new court house. And everybody Is glad to note that stage in Wal lowa county's development which Is marked by so substantial a public building as this new court bouse. Deputy Sheriff Crow was the first official encountered by the press representative on entering the new county building. He looked ten years younger than when down In. the old building. But before the press rep resentative could remark upon this merry change, Sheriff Marvin appear' ed on the scene, his countenance beaming like a 60-candle taicandes. cent, light and almost happy enough to slug. Judge Olmsted and other officials, not a whit behind In the Mnconaclous manifestation, became veritable sunbursts, and looked as If the mlllenlum in court houses had really arrived. . Well, the public, too, is happy. En 'erprlse Is as proud of her new build ing as any county official could be, and she will point out this structure .o ever" visiting traveler and1 land jeeker. Moreover, the building Itself, ihowlng In concrete form the progres- Jive spir't of Wallowa county, will be one of the biggest advertisements Enterprise and Wallowa county could aave. It will simply verify In the visiting mind that slogan, "Watch iflnterprlje Grow." MRS. ADA WALLACE UNRUH WILL LECTURE HERE Mrs. Ada Wallace Unruh, state president of the W. C. T. U. of Or egon, will give an address at the Presbyterian church .next Sunday evening at 8 o'clock. Mirs. Unruh Is one of the best women temper ance lecturers aa the platform, and It Is hoped that everyone will avail himself or herself of the opportunity of hearing her. ANOTHER RANCH CHANGED HANDS THIS WEEK That activity continues In real es tate In and about Enterprise was still further evinced by the sale of J a meal Day to H. Beat of a splen ild ranch on Whhiky Creek, Tues day. The ranch will be operated by the buyer, Mr. Dost, and used for stock. There, is considerable fine timber on It which wIW doubtless be put on the market sooner or later CQUNCfL MEETING T OF MAY 2 BILLS, ALLOWED AND OTHER) MU NICIPAL MATTERS PASSED UPON BY BODY.
