The first annual report of the railroad commission f Oregon shows a pitiful little total of 72 miles of railroad were constructed in this great state during 1907. To the north of us in Washina- ton, ia state smaller in area and no richer in natural resources, the number of miles of construction in 1907 was exceeded by only four states in the Union, namely South Dakota, Louis iana, Texas and Florida. The farmers in the vicinity of Juliaetta, Idaho, have been much annoyed by squirrels, but have just discovered a new way to get rid of the pests. A piece of dynamite about two inches In length is lighted and placed in the hole of the squirrel, after which the opening of the hole is tightly closed.
