w gto gixiXij sx0datXo ASTORIA, OREGON: FRIDAY. .APRIL 13. 18SS In an interview in San Francis co on the 11th with Charles Crock er, vice-president of the Central and Southern Pacific railroad, he stated to an Orcgonian correspon dent that it was proposed to expe dite the construction of a Califor nia and Oregon railroad by every means in their power. "With this end in view men are being trans ferred from the Mojave division on the Southern Pacific and from cer tain points along the Central Pa cific where work has slacked up. Contracts have been let for build ing a large number of carts, which will be placed on the ground of operation as soon as completed. The engineer's department is ex ceedingly active in preparing final plans. During the coming sum mer much more important devel opment will be made than during double that time previously. In a short time over 5,000 men will be put to work, and it is expected considerable progress will be made. The official statement of the Oregon and Transcontinental pub lished in San Francisco on the 11th, shows the following helding: Northern Pacific common, 200,000 shares, $13, 000,000 value; North ern Pacific preferred, 130,000 shares, value $15,300,000. Oregon Navigation, 95, 000 shares, value $13,100,000; cash items. $.300, 000; total value $45,700,000; capi tal stock issued, $35,000,000. The editor of the Times of Col urabuSjGa., has been offered $1,000 for the secret of making a new rum punch. Mr. S. J. Lambart proprietor of the Abbott JJouse, Parsons, Ark., says that St. Jacobs Oi! is the boss rheumatic specific. "It has cured myself and wife,' said Mr. Lanibart, "of rheumatism. "We both had rheutt.-itism inflammato ry rheumatism, too, and had it bad. I believed in the remedv which every one was praising and used it. I have ever since been glad that I did so, for both my wife and myself realized speedy relief and cure. The St. Jacobs Oil is a splendl curative power; in short, it is just the best of lini ments." An Oia Man's Belief Have used Parker's Ginger Tonic for my bad cough and hemnorrhage I had twenty-five years. 1 feel like an othor man since I used it. I am GO years past.
