Trtjwi $ M); ' ' Jits Dfti&i stexmx. ASTORIA, OREGON: TUESDAY. FEBRUARY 27, 18S3 In Iris latest lecture before the iLowoli Institute Professor Lang ley said that the heat of the sun is so groat that "if a column of ice forty-five inches in diameter and extending to the moon were erected on the earth and all the heat of the sun concentrated upon it the column would melt and be come vapor in a single second. The sun's heat as found by experiment with a burning-glass, is eighty three times hotter than melted steel and 5,300 times as bright. If the sun were made of the best of coal, it could furnish the present amount of heat for only G,000 years. If the planets were hurled into the sun, Mercury would sup iply heat for four years; Venus, fifty-sis; the earth, sixty-three; .Mars, twelve; Jupiter, 21,000; Sat urn, 6,200; Uranus, 1,100; Nep tune, 1.200; ;i total of '30,000 yours. The most satisfactory the ory is that planet or star dust is cartstantiy tending toward a com mon center, and this contraction ovolves heat. A contraction of the present mass of the sun at the irate of 250 feet a year would ac count for its heat; and this might go on for thousands of years with out our being able to measure the change. But there must be an end to it. It cannot last for more than 60,000,000 years. It will be a cold day when this happens. The only sure remedy yet found is Brown's Iron Bitters, and this by rapid and thorough assimilation with the blood purifies and enriches it, and rich, strong blood flowing to every part of the system repairs the wasted tissues, drives out disease and gives health and strength. This is why Brown's Iron Bitters will cure kidney and liver diseases, consumption, rheumatism, neuralgia, dyspepsia, mala ria, intermittent fevers, &c. Mr Simon RUmchard, a well i.aow h cuircuof I layesvjile, Meade couusy,Keinuc)c , says : " My wife had lcn mcU iW a lesg time, and her conuttiuion was all broken down and she was unable toivorlc.
