But that didn’t stop the Sneddon family from coming up with an alternative. A quick text to his three brothers and Blair’s wife, Joyce, set the plan in motion. So, this Saturday, from 1 to 2 p.m., people are invited to drive by Sneddon’s home at 2055 40th Street. His wife, Joyce Sneddon, said she would like to make it a surprise but added that she’s not sure how she can make that happen. “He’s bound to figure out something when I tell him that we have to move the cars out of the driveway,” she said. “If that doesn’t tip him off, plac- ing a lawn chair in the drive- way and telling him to sit in it just might.” Friends from around the area have been notified, in- cluding members of Reed- sport Christian Church where Blair and his late wife, Gerel- ean, attended for more than 30 years. Members of the Sneddon extended family have been in- vited and the plan has been set in motion. “We’re reaching out to Siu- slaw Valley Fire and Rescue, asking if they might put it on their reader board at the main station,” said son Tom. “Dad first joined the Florence Fire Department in 1957. He rose through the ranks of the vol- unteer organization, being promoted to captain by the mid ’70s.” Blair would have served several more years but had to resign in 1984 when he moved to Reedsport because of his job with Central Lincoln PUD.
