2A | SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2018 | SIUSLAW NEWS T HE R ECORD OBITUARY PRYOR—Don Albert Pryor, 89, passed away Aug. 28, 2018, surrounded by family, af- ter a battle with can- cer. He was born May 26, 1929, in Peo- ria, Ill., to Don Pryor Buel and Winnie Pryor. The family moved to Portland, Ore., in 1941, where Don graduated from high school. In 1946, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, and re- ported to Keeslar AFB, Bi- loxi, Miss. After basic training, he was assigned to the 637th Aircraft Control and Warn- ing Squadron as a radar re- pairman in Alaska. His rank was AR/2c, 1946-1952. Don was both a WWII and Korean War veteran. After his military service, he attended the University of Oregon. In 1953, he married Pa- tricia Westbury in Portland, Ore. They had two children, a son Kelly, and a daughter Chris. Patricia passed away in 1989. In 2003, Don met and married Sharon Wildey (His Montana Girl). They lived on Clear Lake near Cheney, Wash., and then moved to Florence in 2012. Don was a stellar sales- man where his career start- ed in 1955 with RJ Reyn- olds Tobacco Company. He changed to Industrial Sales, which took him from Med- ford, Ore., to Eugene, Ore., to Olympia, Wash., to Spo- kane, Wash., and finally to Seattle, where he retired in 1994. In 1999, he came out of re- tirement and founded D&M Marketing Industrial Safety Supplies, where he brought his business back to Spokane and Idaho. Don was still tak- ing orders for his longtime customers up until his death. He will be missed by many people. Don was a man who touched many lives. He loved people and was always telling stories about his life experiences with an infec- tious smile. Don was a life- time member of the VFW, Band of Brothers, and the Elks. In 2016, he was privileged to go on the South Willa- mette Valley Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., with his daughter, Chris, which was one of the highlights of his last years. thanks to their Pastor Greg Wood and his wife, Norma, who have done so much for them. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m., 3996 Highway 101 in Flor- ence. In lieu of flowers, memori- al contributions can be made to VFW Post 3232, P.O. Don is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia; parents Buel and Winnie Pryor; and sister, Alma. He is survived by his wife, Sharon; son Kelly Pryor (Patti); daughter Chris Hry- cenko (Rick); grandchildren Samantha Pryor, James Pry- or and Matthew Hrycenko; Sharon’s children: Peter No- lan and Sherry Larson and families; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Bella. Don and Sharon have been members of the Presbyte- rian Church of the Siuslaw for many years. These patrols were funded through grants from the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association and the Oregon Department of Trans- portation. During this two-week satu- ration period, deputies worked 116 hours of grant-funded overtime, which resulted in the following enforcement con- tacts: • 2 Driving Under the Influ- ence of Intoxicants • 27 Driving While Suspend- ed • 62 Speeding • 49 Failure to Use Safety Belt • 33 Distracted Driving • 101 other citations • 2 felony arrests The Lane County Sheriff ’s Office is thankful for these grants, which provided for traf- fic enforcement that would not otherwise be possible without the grant funding.
