While there, he ignored com- pany policy on dating co-work- ers and asked MaryCleve Por- ter-Smith for a date on her first day of employment; they mar- ried on July 31, 1953. In 1957, Ron moved his family to Eugene, Ore., where he began work with the Tromp & McKin- ley Insurance Agency. He even- tually became a partner and then CEO of the agency. When Willis Corroon pur- chased the agency, he served as CEO for the statewide opera- tions before retiring in 1992. Ron was respected for his fairness and integrity. He was a wise and steady boss who helped build a family atmosphere that former employees still miss. He also served as president of the Western Lane Community Foundation and was on the board for Habitat for Humanity. Ron was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. Nothing pleased him more than family gatherings at Mercer Lake and Siltcoos Lake. He was very social and had a great sense of humor, although he never un- derstood jokes.
