SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 2017 Us TOO discusses UroLife cancer treatment Us TOO Florence will be addressing a benign prostate condition that affects far more men than prostate cancer, namely BPH — enlarged prostate — on Tuesday, Sept. 12. More than 70 percent of men in their 60s have symp- toms of BPH, which can be coincident with prostate can- cer. These symptoms include: frequent need to urinate both day and night; weak or slow urinary stream; a sense of not completely emptying the blad- der; difficulty or delay starting urination; urgent feeling of needing to urinate; a urinary stream that stops and starts. As the prostate enlarges, it 3 A Shorewood raises money for Boys & Girls Club presses on and blocks the ure- thra, causing the above urinary symptoms. Medication and surgical removal of excess prostate tis- sue, as in TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate), have been the standard treat- ment. Now comes UroLift, a 10-minute non-surgical proce- dure done right in the urolo- gist’s office. To learn more about this procedure from Dr. Bryan Mehlhaff, who is using this new procedure, attend the Us TOO Florence meeting from, 5 to 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw, 3996 Highway 101.
