Florence Mayor Joe Henry will light the Christmas tree at Siuslaw River Interpretive Center on Bay Street. Chamber volunteers and Florence Public Works crews finished putting up decorations and installing lights in Old Town last weekend. Chamber Events Coordinator Nancy Pearson said certain volunteers, such as Kelly Hansen and Tia Allen, helped get businesses in Old Town interested in Small Business Saturday to coincide with the festivities. “We eat down there, we play down there, we shop down there. I want every store, every business (involved). I’m really excited that it’s inclu- sive,” Pearson said. are invited to return, and all nativity sets, large or small, are welcome. The festival takes place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’ build- ing, 2705 Munsel Lake Road. It is open to the public and is free of charge. We have a full resource to draw people here,” Hannigan said. “Once they’re here, we want to get them around town.” Pearson agreed. “Yes, go to your big stores. You know what your kids want for Christmas, but you also know what we have in Old Town and around town. That’s the whole point of Small Business Saturday,” she said. “I could be visiting some of these stores, and definitely dining out this weekend,” she added. Besides preparing for a full holiday season of events, the chamber is also looking for volunteers for 2017 commit- tees. Committee members are needed for the annual Siuslaw Business Awards in February, the 110th Rhododendron Festival in May, the annual Fourth of July fireworks and celebration and the 10th annu- al Rods ’N’ Rhodies in September. “We’re wanting to start get- ting committees together before events start happening,” Pearson said.
