We want to make sure this

Registration begins for 11th annual Nativity Festival
Do you have a cherished
nativity scene that you put up
each year in December to
begin your Christmas sea-

share it for a few days to help
others catch the true meaning
of Christmas and bring joy
into their lives?
The Florence Nativity
Festival Committee is seek-
ing community and coastal
members who would like to
participate in this year’s fesit-
val, which will be held Dec.

Hannigan said, “When you
shop local, the money stays in
our community, rather than
going to another community.
It’s trickle down, or trickle
around.”
Saturday is also the
Florence Holiday Festival in
Old Town. It runs from 3:30 to
6 p.m., and many area busi-
nesses will have extended
hours to accommodate holiday
shoppers. Santa Claus will
arrive on a Siuslaw Valley Fire
and Rescue fire truck, and
there will be free hot cocoa,
hot apple cider, hay rides and
music. Florence Mayor Joe
Henry will light the Christmas
tree at Siuslaw River
Interpretive Center on Bay
Street.
Chamber volunteers and
Florence Public Works crews
finished putting up decorations
and installing lights in Old
Town last weekend.
Chamber Events
Coordinator Nancy Pearson
said certain volunteers, such as
Kelly Hansen and Tia Allen,
helped get businesses in Old
Town interested in Small
Business Saturday to coincide
with the festivities.
“We eat down there, we
play down there, we shop
down there. I want every store,
every business (involved). I’m
really excited that it’s inclu-
sive,” Pearson said.

“People come to Florence
for our dunes and our Old
Town. We have a full resource
to draw people here,”
Hannigan said. “Once they’re
here, we want to get them
around town.”
Pearson agreed.
“Yes, go to your big stores.
You know what your kids
want for Christmas, but you
also know what we have in
Old Town and around town.
That’s the whole point of
Small Business Saturday,”
she said.
“I could be visiting some of
these stores, and definitely
dining out this weekend,” she
added.
Besides preparing for a full
holiday season of events, the
chamber is also looking for
volunteers for 2017 commit-
tees. Committee members are
needed for the annual Siuslaw
Business Awards in February,
the 110th Rhododendron
Festival in May, the annual
Fourth of July fireworks and
celebration and the 10th annu-
al Rods ’N’ Rhodies in
September.
“We’re wanting to start get-
ting committees together
before events start happening,”
Pearson said.
