SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2015 OBITUARY BERRY—Doris Anita Berry, 87, of Mapleton, passed away peace- fully in her home Nov. 15, 2015, with her family by her side. She was born on May 28, 1928, in Doris Berry Rex, Ark., to Thomas T. and Lou Zelia Jones. Doris married Hersel Berry on July 13, 1949. She came to Oregon in 1949 after marrying the love of her life, Hersel. She enjoyed cooking, bak- ing, canning and sewing. She was a room mother in her children’s classrooms for many years and was active in the Mapleton Booster Club. She spent many years at the football stadium and high school gym watching kids and grandkids play sports. Doris was also a member of the Florence Church of Christ. She loved being surrounded by her family and, if anyone stopped by, they were always invited to a meal. She was preceded in death by Hersel in 2007; her mother in 1981 and her father in 1993. COURTS Florence Municipal Court Nov. 10 Kourtney Sue Burns plead- ed no contest to possession of a forged instrument and attempted possession of a controlled substance. She was sentenced to 90 days in Florence City Jail and must report to treatment. She must pay $850 in fines and not con- tact or be in or about the premises or place of employ- ment of the victim. Brandy Lee Saxton pleaded guilty to theft. She was sen- tenced to four days in Florence City Jail. She must pay $475 in fines and not con- tact or be in or about the resi- dence or place of employment of the victim. Brian Thomas Woods pleaded no contest to four counts of theft and one count of criminal trespass. He was sentenced to nine days in Florence City Jail and must report to Emergence Addiction and Mental Health Services. He must pay $636 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premises or place of employment of the victim. Mathew Calvin Ridings pleaded no contest to DUII and criminal mischief. He was sentenced to seven days in Florence City Jail and must report to AMP. He must pay $2,240 in fines. His driver’s license is suspended for three years. Lauretta Ann Hendricks pleaded no contest to criminal mischief. She was sentenced to one day in Florence City Jail. She must pay $420 in fines and not contact or be in or about the residence or place of employment of the victim. Deanie Jean Wood pleaded guilty to attempted possession of methamphetamine. She must report to Emergence Addiction and Mental Health Services. She must pay $325 in fines. Nov. 17 Chad Everett Basurto pleaded guilty to theft and attempted possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to three days in Florence City Jail and must report to Options Counseling Services of Oregon, Inc. He must pay $450 in fines and not contact or be in or about the premises or place of employment of the victim. Doris is survived by her sis- ter, Dorothy Hooten of Shirley, Ark.; her four children: her son Dennis and wife Nancy Berry of Mapleton, and daughters: Patricia and husband Ralph Foster of McMinnville, Ore., Janice and husband Charlie Patterson of Mapleton, and Sherry and husband Willard Dutcher of Mapleton; 11 grandchildren: Lisa Foster of Newberg, Ore., Loucinda Dundas and Lora Wegner of Billings, Mont., Deanna Greene of Veneta, Ore., Denise Ledbetter of Eagle Point, Ore., Darrell Berry of Philomath, Ore., Brittany Bottensek of Blachly, Ore., Ashley Patterson of Nehalem, Ore., Chad Walker of Coquille, Ore., Melissa Thompson of Eugene, Ore., and Luke Dutcher of Gillette, Wyo.; 20 great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ruby Vaughn of Eugene; and two brother-in- laws, Leon Berry of Little Rock, Ark., and Eldon Berry of Scotland, Ark.; and many loved nieces and nephews. The funeral will be at Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home on Saturday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. Private interment was held at Pacific Sunset Cemetery in Florence. Siuslaw students to serve seniors at pie social Florence-area seniors are invited to a Thanksgiving Pie Social on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Siuslaw High School, inside the main entrance in the “Mall” area. The KCST Viking Hour crew is hosting this event to connect the senior citizen community with high school students. “This is a chance for Siuslaw students to serve our seniors and thank them for all they have done for us,” said Claire Waggoner, the show’s student producer. “We get a chance to connect over pie, coffee and conversation. I am hoping this will become an annual event.” Viking Hour is a Siuslaw High School student-produced and hosted weekly radio show on 106.9 KCST. A team of more than 12 students rotate hosting the show every Monday night from 7 to 8 p.m. Grocery Outlet is helping sponsor the event, and Kyle Lewis and the Siuslaw Culinary Arts program are baking the pies.
