SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2015 Ocean Woods to be discussed Wednesday Heceta South Home Owners Association (HOA) and concerned community members have scheduled a meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4, to discuss the fate of Ocean Woods, a 40-acre undevel- oped Lane County park that the county is considering sell- ing. The meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the Florence Elks Lodge, 1686 12th St. Anyone interested is invit- ed to attend. Charlie Campione, presi- dent of Heceta South HOA, said, “The Lane County Parks Department has developed a draft master plan which rec- ommends the sale. ... Ocean Woods is a 40-acre parcel that was deeded to Lane County by the state of Oregon to be retained as park land. I am sure that you can predict the many adverse situations if this property is sold, such as negative impact on wild life and endangered species, decrease in property values, etc.” Campione said that a peti- tion against the sale already has more than 300 signatures. This meeting will provide background on the subject and a solicitation of recom- mendations on how to explore other solutions to preserving the parcel. For more information, or to be placed on the agenda, contact Charlie Campione at cnjcampione@gmail.com. 3 A Local veterans donate backpacks of food Florence’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3232 and the Band of Brothers have partnered with the Food Backpack for Kids Program by “adopting” two students for the 2015/2016 school year.
