6 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29, 2015 Siuslaw Tale Spinners Gallery features ‘Children of the World’ continue workshops The Toastmasters club in Florence, Siuslaw Tale Spinners, will hold the second in its series of free community workshops on Saturday, May 9, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., at the Siuslaw Public Library. The workshop, “Set Powerful Goals That Motivate You,” will be held as part of the Talespinners’ open house program. Many people set goals at the beginning of the year; to get in shape, lose weight or attain some state of accomplishment at work, in the community or in their personal lives. Often, however, our goals fail us and we fail them. Why? Tom Cox of Cox Business Consulting will share methods to set and track goals so we might never have to fear miss- ing a goal again. Toastmasters is a nonprofit educational organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of meeting locations. The Florence Events Center, 715 Quince St., will feature the photography of Ginger Gouveia in Gallery One during the month of May. Gouveia has taken photog- raphy classes at Linn Benton Community College as well as various photography and digital photography work- shops at the Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. She lives in Waldport, Ore., and retired to the Oregon Coast 14 years ago. She is a member of Yaquina Art Association and the Yachats Artist Guild, and her work has been exhibited at Gallery 34 in Waldport, at various venues in Yachats and in Florence. Church holds rummage sale to fund kids’ camp Find a treasure you didn’t know you were looking for or get some extra space in your garage or closets — all while helping kids go to camp. Florence Evangelical Church is holding a rummage sale Saturday, May 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds from this annual sale help kids, who otherwise could not afford camp, go to church camp in the summer. This year the church is looking to help 16 kids have a fun-filled and possibly life- changing experience. The funds will join with a Gouveia’s “Children of the World” exhibit has been pre- viously exhibited at the Runyan Gallery and Sylvia Beach Hotel in Yachats as well as venues in Corvallis and Portland. “During travels to new cul- tures, I relish my connection with the children. With my lens, I try to capture the hope, joy and sometimes pain in their eyes,” said Gouveia. “Many of these children face a world that is uncertain and fearful but, through it all, their innocence and playful- ness continues to shine through from their souls. “With this exhibit, I hope to honor the dignity of children everywhere.” grant from Western Lane Community Foundation, which is helping make the camp registration possible. The church can use dona- tions of gently used items, such as books, toys, tools, household items and clothing to sell at the sale.
