Health-Seeking. The Santa Bar bara (Cal.) Press says: "Hon. E. N. Cook, ex-Secretary of State of Oregon, and wife, were passengers on the Ori zaba to spend the winter in this tine climate. Mr. Cook i a resident of Salem, where he has erected one of the finest residences on the coast. Rev. Mn. Gray, of Eugene City, preached at the Congregational Church last Sunday morning, to a large con gregation. Those who attended sneak' in very favorable terms of the Rev. gentleman, and there is some talk of engaging him as tho regular pastor of mis cnurcn. The Seminary, under the able man agement of Mr. W.Tj.XVorthington.aid- ed by an excellent corps of assistants,! attracting scholars from the surround ing country, and a general interest in the education of our young people has taken hold of our citizens. K. ok P. This (Friday) evening del egations from Excelsior and Mystic lodges, K. of P., of Portland, will visit this city to institute a lodge of that Order. They will secure a boat for thn occasion if possible, but if unable will arrive on me evening train. A youno man named Shoat Hying near Needy in this cougty has brofceti out with small small-pox, and ten or titteen persons have been exposed. The exposed persons have been placed in quarrentme. T. Ji. Jones is tho tiller of the soil who raises the beets that can't be beat. Last year he had one that weighed IS pounds, and he has several this year that will pull tho scales at the same figure.
