Gilliam & Bisbee have just or dered another car load of cement to Bell at $3.50 per barrel. Rev. Warron has been assisting Rev. Sewell in a revival at Lexing ton for the past two'weeks. A number of people have been con verted and tne church work en couraged. Farmer's week at the Oregon Agricultural College will com mence Monday, February 14 The activities will be conducted in in stitute form and will cover all brauches of agriculture, horticul ture, dairying and domestic science nd art. Any one who is interest ed in the practical problems of farming, fruit growing and house keeping and tue new and improved methods which may be used in their solution, will do well to at tend the exercises of the farmers week. In the last fire years, the nam ter of farms in the Northwest has doubled, until today there are "211,000, which yielded products in 1909 having a total value of $401,. 00,000. The various states stand as follows: Oregon 75,000 farms; XTashington 6(3,000 farms; Idaho 40,000 farms; Montana 30,000 farms. There are millions of acres of land idle now that couldgbe put under cultivation on a revenue ba is. With the back to the land tendencies of the present day, it is certain that the number of farms in the Northwest will continue to increase for many years to come. The winter short courses opened at the Agricultuial College, Tues day, January 4, with the largest and most representative body of j students ever iu attendance. There j are men and women raDging in j ag from 1G to C3 yenrs ami rep-; resenting almost every walk of lift. Side by fide with the girls end boys from the ninth and tenth grades of the public schools of the st ite are graduates of Brown, j Yale, Lake Forest and many other j t;rpat eastern and rauldle west -universities and colleges. There are farmers and fruit growers who own or QiHimo farms ranciug from fiv;i to 2300 acres. There are teachers and housewives, stock men, dairymen, horticulturists, buaineas men and capitalists. He states that the snow is 10 inches deep at the mil), while the weather is warmer there than lower down in the foothills. Barney Pearson killed a large grey eagle out near Joe Rector's place last Monday. Searle Reier sou 6ent the bird out to D- Cox, the well known taxidermist, who Will mouut it. It is a beautiful specimen of the national bird. Rev. E. P. Warren announces regular services at his church next Sunday. Mr. Rogers from Gene see, Idaho, will be present. ITe has assisted Mr. Warren in a num ber of revivals during the past three years. Special reviual ser vices will commence the last Sun day in January. To all of these services the public is invited. Sixty forest rangers from all parts of the Northwest and Cali fornia have enrolled at the Uni versity of Washington, in the for estry department, by detail of the government. Forestry experts will assist the faculty in instruct ing the men. They are on full pay while attending the university, but subject to all the rules gov erning ordinary Btudents. A long cruise in the woods will conclude the instruction. Buster Keithley and Osman Shaner of the Uma tilla National Forest are taking the course. Sheriff E. M. Sbutt is on his re turn from Pomona, Cal. with W C. Bingham. It is alleged that Bingham hired a buggy and team from McRobcrts & Evans' livery stable in this city on the morning of August 7 last, fraying that he would want the team for several days. After several days bad elapsed and no word being re ceived as to his whereabouts, W. T. McRoberts became suspicious and made a trip through .the in terior of the state, finally learning that the team had been sold to the Bangs Livery Company, at Eu- Suinmons.
