In the last fire years, the nam
ter of farms in the Northwest has
doubled, until today there are
"211,000, which yielded products in
1909 having a total value of $401,.
00,000. The various states stand
as follows: Oregon 75,000 farms;
XTashington 6(3,000 farms; Idaho
40,000 farms; Montana 30,000
farms. There are millions of acres
of land idle now that couldgbe put
under cultivation on a revenue ba
is. With the back to the land
tendencies of the present day, it is
certain that the number of farms
in the Northwest will continue to
increase for many years to come.
The winter short courses opened

end boys from the ninth and tenth

the st ite are graduates of Brown, j
Yale, Lake Forest and many other j
t;rpat eastern and rauldle west
-universities and colleges. There
are farmers and fruit growers who
own or QiHimo farms ranciug from
fiv;i to 2300 acres. There are
teachers and housewives, stock
men, dairymen, horticulturists,
buaineas men and capitalists. This
representative attendance speaks
well for the future of agricultural
Oregon.
