L yman From the Ont onta Pres3, N. Y. O xkonta , New York, January 0 , 1881. Early last summer Messrs. B. J. Kendall k Co., of Knosl.urgh Fails, Vt.,, made a contract with the pub- Ushers of the Press for a half column advertisement for one year, setting forth tho merits of Kendall’s Hpavin cure At the same time we secured from tli« firm a quantity of books, entitled “ Dr. Kendall’s Treatise on tho Horse and bis Discuses, which we are giving to advance paying subscribers to tho Press as a premium. About tho time the advertisement first appeared in lliis paper Mr. I*. U. Schermorhorn, who resides near Colliers, had a spavined horse. Hu read the adver tisement and concluded to test the efficacy of the remedy, although his friends laughed ut his credulity. He bought a bottle of Kendall's Spavin Cure and commenced using it on the horse, in accordance with the directions, and he informed us this week that it effected such a complete cure that an expert horse man, who examined the animal recently, could find no trace of the spavin or the place where it had been located. Mr. Sclicrmorhom has since secured a copy of Kendall’s Treatise on the Horse and his Diseases, which lie prizes very highly, and would he loth to part with gt any price, provided he could not obtain another c^jK So much for advertising reliable arti cles. rfbnts- The fact is that the princi-| would have dono only for want of U one of U.e u.uuv"ueb“ o, a »>•■>:, or six 1 -oxe* f'»r five dollars; sent by mail pre- i;i d o i receipt <d price.
