Mrs. G. had been for many years a consistent member of the Baptist chnreh and was universally loved and re spected. Oime Otis, well k.iown in this community as the very eQicient snistant in the Rose burg post oiSco, died veiy suddenly on the morn ing of the 17th inst, at the residence of H. C. Stanton, in this city. Orme was 17 years old and was born in Iowa, but prior to coming to Rosehurg re sided with his parents at Cresswell, Lane county, this State. J. C. Hutchinson has a number of men employed cutting logs at the mouth of Little canyon, on the Umpqua river, which ho will float down to the Gardi ner mills. This is quite - an undertak ing and will prove valuable, if properly managed, and we are confident that Mr. II. is competent to make the un dertaking a complete success. Tin youngest son of John Hunt lied very suddenly on last Sunday nignt lie was taterr sick lasj; week and on Friday Dr. Page was called and pronounced the disease typhoid pneu monia. He reported him doing finely on Sunday, but on Sunday evening alarming sy mptoms set in, which re sulted in his death, lhe change was so sudden and fatal that it surprised and shocked all. They were both held to answer to the grand jury on the charge of mur der without bail. If with the incontrovertible evidence of fraud and chicanery as contained in Huntington's letters to Colton Congress does not dispossesp the Central Pacific crowd of the Texas Land Grant, it will indeed be a surprise to the country. In 1878 Huntington distinctly stated that the land in this grant ought to revert to the public donnin. The only change in the attitude of the grant since then, i-, that it will now enrich Huntington k Co instead of Tom Scott.
