HEVAS m AHUHRT1 Bear that Liked Fish, but a that Didn't Like the Bear. Man We won Id like to give the nam of the hero in this story, but he has been laughed at co nmch by t. e boys that we are afraid his usual patience aud good nature are ex hausted, and he wonld not feel kindly to ward us should we publish him to the vorld. Suffice U to say he does not live a thousand miles from Roseburg, and hi no ted for the many stories he tells of mar velous bear hunts. He is also quite a fia- rrman, and this last passion led him to s nk the ; headwaters of the North Cmpqua in quest of mountain trout, l b. re were two other boys with him la the trip, nd they were hunters. One ox-ruing our hero took his line and pole snd started up the river. ' He soon found a place where th-i water dashed over a cas cade and settled In a deed pool below, . It wax just such a place as a true fiaherma is pleased to see, bat to reach the pool It was necessary to wade out into the watsr a distance of thirty feet This was done, and the line cast. The m ment the artificial fly of th angler struck the water and be gan tripping over the ripples in the cur rent, a ha!fi ound trout struck the hook with a snap and was swung out oi the wa ter without trouble. Having no basket the fisherman tossed the fisu over his had to the bank behind without turning round. The fly ageiu struck the water, avrain it was taken by a huotrrv trout and strain the trout was thrown to the bank after being unhooked. So the sport continued until thirty flue trout had been caught ' Just then there was a sm-cttna of lips and a snapping of tevth. The fisherman turned about, liebind htm on the bank sat a cin namun bear who was piavinir "short stop." The prvsence of bruin was discovered by the bbherman just as he had tossed a fish to the bank and the bear was in the act ot catching it on the fly. One glanca ook in the whole situation. The bear had ate the fish as Iki-t as caught, and had, In gymnas tic s'.yle. taken them in while in the air. The fisherman wasn't mad at the bear ; he didn't even feel like wadlnsr back to the bank and cuffing bruin's ears. Ho simply remarked, Great gaud !" aDd waded over to the other side ot the river, to be greeted by the laughter of his friends who had been patient watchers of the sceue, and who, by well-directed shots from their Winchester rifles, soon put an end to bruiu's existence. Please send me by express six eases C. 6. D and oblige, yours truly. H. C. LOUDEKBACK, M. D. So long as there are ills to which Besh is heir to, and the cares and labor of life breed disease, so long will it lie necessary to use medicine to counteract the evil produced and maintain tbe health of the human family. Many kind of medicine are frequents ly offered t the public for one special disease and another, and if the truth were known it would doubtlessly be tound that in the majority of cases these aostrnms have done more barm than good. Indeed seme of the greatest evils of the present day is the existence ot quack compound, which contain ingredient inimicable to health, and the greatest care, therefore, should be taken by invalids, ia using niauy unknown drugs which cannot be taken with impunity, no matter what may be alledged to the eontraiy. Now. experience Las shown that Nabob Whisky Ss one of the beet medicinal prepa ration known, and is highly recommended by the Faculty for all case of nervousness, weakness, debility, dyspepsia, indigestion, etc. It popularity throughout the East ern States has been great, and it comes to the Pacific Coast endorsed by the certifi cates of Dr, 8. Dana Hayes, State Assayer back, ot .-St. luis, Alo. These certificates are most direct in their statements, aver, ring that the Nabob Whisky is, without exception, the purest article that can be used either medicinally or tor indigestion and nervous affections, and can be nsed with the utmost confidence. The analysis show that thi whisky is of standard al coholic strength, and free from flavoring, oils, acids, metals, or other deleterious sub stances. Dr. Haves further say that it i pure, of superior oualitv. and suitable for dietin and medicinal purpose. Such recommendations are the strongest that ctn be lurnisiied, and as there are thousands or as a family remedy and tonic, no farther S. MASKS & CO., Ag'ts, Rosoburg. GREAT ANNOUNCEMENT!
