Another Pioneer done. Mrs. Philip Phile" died sud denly Thursday night as.the re sult of a stroke of paralysis, in tlie seventy-fourth year of her age. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the family residence, Rev. J. R. N. Bell officiating, the remains be ing buried in Crystal Lake ceme tery. In the passing of Mrs. Phile, the old settlers will be impressed with the thought that time is swiftly passing and one by one the old pioneers are called home to their reward. Hers has been a life of great activity, earnestly striving at all times to make the home happy, and by her sunny disposition she cast a . ray of iiht and gladness in ,many a weary heart to cheer them to duty in the lonely struggles of life.. The bereaved husband and children have' the deep sym pathy of all in their sorrow. : Big Land Opening. R. R. and connected with every improve ment and society in Corvallis, is lying at the point of death in Roseburg, where he was taken from his lonely mountain min ing camp by the Masonic Lodge of that city, the members hav ing learned of his pitiful and destitute condition. While living here, Mr. Grant performed the heroic act of rush ing into the burning Wells ware house and rescuing his friend, Mr. Wrenn, from what seemed certain death. This brave man is now dying among strangers, apparently neglected and forgot ten by his friends of former years.
