Mark Rickard and Miss Edna Outhrie were married at Mon mouth Sunday afternoon. Rev. and Mrs. Bell were en tertained at the G. W. Ilenkle home on Thanksgiving day. Ed. Blunkett, of Kings Valley, passed through Corvallis on Sat urday on his way to California. Dr. O. D. Butler, of Independ ence was a guest at the Caleb Davis home on Thanksgiving day. James M. Fowler and daugh ter, of Hoskins were looking af ter business matters in Corvallis on Saturday. Tom ni Nolan came home from Portland Friday evening where he has been spending the vacation season. Prof. C. E. Bradley, of OAC, has just completed a carefully written bulletin on Denatured Alcohol, showing its merits as an economical substitute for gas oline or kerosene. Wiles was a Portland on Friday to spend the day with his sister Mrs. Wells, who has been very sick at the Good Samaritan Hospital. A slight blaze called out the fire department to Dr. Foster's office on North Second street, SatuHay morning. The fire, which was in the flue, was quick ly put out. Mrs. Dr. Cathey and daughter, Evalyn, returned. Friday even ing from Salem where they had attended the reunion - of the Cathey family. They report a happy time. Opie Read, who was the star attraction in the second number of the Corvallis Lyceum Course, drew a crowded house last Fri day night and delighted the large audieuce with his inimit able sayings. "Jacob, the Shepherd Saint," was the subject of Sunday morn ing's sermon at the M E church and the great lessons it taught in practical life were of deep in terest to the large and attentive congregation. They are old residents, of Corvallis and by their amiable dispositions have made many warm friends in Corvallis who wish them success -in the new home. M. Tillery, the enterprising grocer, has moved to the White horn building on Second street, in order to accommodate nis largely increasing trade. The interior has been remodeled and makes one of the most attrac tive stores in the city. Among the Benton county people who have been granted pensions or changes in pensions accorded to the last ruling of the Pension Bureau are James H. Penn, Albert Kenip, Robert N. White, Sarah A. Wilkinson and John Woods, of Corvallis. The -indications are that the opera house will be crowded next Thursday night to witness the pe rf ormance; of ".We Are King," one of the best comedies ever given here. V Much interest is manifested in the engagement. Those who are wise will secure seats early. Walter Wiles came home from Portland on Friday, accom panied by his sister, Mrs. Wells, who is slowly recovering from a very serious surgical operation. Mr. Clark left the last of the week to attend the Boys' Convention, which has been in session the past few days in Eugene. Rt. Rev. Bishop Scadding has appointed Sunday, December 20, for the holding of a special ser vice in memory of the late Prof. ggsfcttfeai'sgKay hGeonge Coote. This service will be held in the Church of the Good Samaritan, of which Prof. Coote was senior warden, and the sermon will be preached by the Arch Deacon, Rev. H. D.
