Alexander Finlayson, bettor known as ' Sandy" was dragged to death near Prineville on the 14th, inst, by being thrown from his wagon while hauling supplies to his ranch on Crooked river. A woman named Mrs. Solberg, a "grase widow," the mother of four children left Elgin last week with a Chinese paramour. She and her Mongolian were driven out of Enterprise, Wallowa county, a few days previously. The breaking of the ferry cable, wherebv travel across the river at this place has been suspended for a few days, has been very an- noving. The new cable ordered ar rived yesterday and was put in place. The cause of the break is said to have been damage to the rahle caused bv the steamer Mo ImviiiL' run into it. The steam er's smokestack was also damaged and hr ow ners have put in a bill for $124 damages. The ferry com retaliated bv DUtling in a hill for damages to the cable by the steamer, claiming that the steamer was out of the channel or ehe would not have run afoul of thecaole. The ferry boat resum ed its regular trips laBt night, and with the new cable is in better condition than ever. Alleged Cruelty te Animal, Wm. Shields was arrested yes terday on a warrant out in Justice Humphrey's court, charging with cruelty to animals, in neglecting to properly care for certain stock quartered at the premises of the family. Reform School Inmate. The Sunday Oregonian indicates the reform school will soon have plenty of students. It says that George Dayton, aged 14 years, and William Robert Kern, aged 1 1 , were brought before Judge Stearns yesterday on the application of the parents to have the boys admitted . . l 1 L.'.. After hearing the parental evidence, the court made an order admitting the boys to the reform echool.
