Large Tracts of Timber Lands la Southern 4reg-oii Bought by EaHtern Capitalists, San Francisco, Pec. 18. The Centeral Pacific Railroad Com pany made the largest timber land :ile in its history yesterday. According to the reports of the ooinpuiy's oliicials the sale imounted to $100,000. It was Hatel that the land averaged $8 an ac e, aud this would make the total acreage sold 12,503, or twenty square miles. The' laud is in Southern Oregon. and was bought by Charles"!- tnd J. i. Pierce, lumber men of Chicago, who will erect large mills .it Klamath I tty and will build a railroad thirty-eight miles in eiiL'th to tap their new possession and haul down the logs for saw ing, extending the line from time) (o time as may neccessary as they fell their timber. Th;s sale closely follows that made to Cook A; Co., also Chicago lumber men, who paid $00,000 for another huge tract a short time ig. The timber on the land is chiefly pine, out there is some red wood and not a little of other varieties. It is believed that these two sales v ill creatlv stimulate the lumber business of the northern country. To get revenge, Smith and hie thiee sons and four other men rode to Poland's house in the night time, summoned Poland and nis wife to the door and shot them dead. The Adams, farmers alliance and anti-lottery combine convention list night adopted a platform, nominated their state ticket, pro vided for the appointment of a new state central committee, and adjourned sine die. The platform adopted declares allegiance to democratic principles, praises the present state government and con cludes with a dcclaratipn of unal terable opposition to lotteries and the adoption of the proposed rev enue amendments to the constitu tion.
