A LAND OlAIiKKL THK C.119E. TLs Coroner's Jury Pronoancea It Doliberate Ma-der--The Mur derer ia Jail. At a late hour last night infor mation was received in in this city of the killing of Henry Ingram by his brother Frank at the farm o' the latter five miles south of this city. The shooting was the result of a quarrel over the division of the Ingram estate and a contest over the terms of the will left by their mother. Threats had previously been made by the dead brother and several shots had been lired on a former encounter. Several .lays ago the Hervi.u publi-hed an cceount of a farm hand on Frank Ingram's place discovering a man prowling around the house, and how he drove him oil' with a gun. Night before last the man returned ag-tiu and was armed, but was again driven off by the hired man, after some more shoot ing. Late last night the same hired man came to this city in hot haste on horseback, seeking the sheriff and a physician, and bcar ng the information that Frank Ingram had shot and killed the prowler, who was his brother, iJenry Jngiam. It appears that about 8 a'clock in the evening, Henry was dis covered approaching ihe house armed with a gun, Fiank In gram, with a levolver in each hand, met him and commanded him to throw up his hands, and on his raising his gun (o shoot, opened lire upon him, killing him almost instantly. The sheriff, coroner, Dr. W. II. Davis and others left for the set ne, but at a late hour had not re turned. The tiuarrel was provoked by the brother who was killed, he havii glaid in wait lor the purpose of killing his brother on several different occasions. Fiank Ingram seemed equally as determined not to be driven away, and had asked the sheriff if he would be allowed to carry a revolver. Both brothers expected bloodshed and were well armed. It was a unst unfortunate family quarrel, w inch ended in a deplorable manner. 1.ATKU I'AKTU'l I.A1.S. The above particulars are as ob tained from the hired man. The otliceis returned at :':' A) this morn ing with some additional particu lars. The coroner's jury consisting of lieo Humphrey, C. W. Watts, Alex Renney, E. A. Milner, Roht. strong ami John Mullan, found that the de -caged came to Ufa death at the hands of Frank In gram, and that it was a deliberate, murdei, and that Ingram bedield ior murder. The evidence showed that Frank I ni: ram had wailed at a tree i.ear the house, for his brother, ami when he came up within eight feet he ordered him to thro up. his hands ami in the encounter he shot him twice through the heart. Ingram claimed that he heard another man running and also shut at him. A short time after wards he heard his fallen brother make a slight noise, and shot him again in the face, lie claimed that up to that t ine he did not know who he was shooting at. Brown of Hillsboro. '"1'nity of Action" by W. K. Williams of Salem. St ruion in the even ng by Lavid Wet.ell of Portland on' The Triumph of Christianity Super human." The session has been very profit able and great good w 11 result. On Wednesday the papers were: "(Qualification of Elders," bv I). M. loiy of Dallas; "Ministerial (.iualiftcations"," by A. B. Wade of llillshoro; "The Preacher as a Pastor," by David Wet.ell of Portland. In the evening a ser mon was delivered by W. K. Williams of Salem on "How Much Can We Know of cio l." The services of the ministerial meeting closed last evening with an excellent sermon by David Wetell, of Portland church. The people of Albany have been very couit?ous and kind in their treat ment of the visiti- g brethren, and Ihe press of the city have their thanks. Savpyors Up the Saotiam Leave Their Wcrk in a Miserable Conditio!. Information has been received in this city that the surveyors who had the contract for survevirg I township 10 south in anges 4, 5 and 0 eaet, have made a miserable mess of the work, and finally jumped their contract, niter fool ing away leveral months of good weather in discovering the fict that they do not know how to make a public land mrvey, leav ing tho settlers to wait another year before they can hope to be gin to a quire title to their land. Iepmv Surveyor Win, Camp bell, of The Dalles, who has been In charge of tho woi k, has been running several boundaries, but . hen another c mtrai tor, Surveyor Bushe attempted to cross section the worK, the two surveyors could not agree by a good many rods and they could inaka no further headway. Alter thtting about over their territory, doing a little work here and a liitle theie, they linaily tangled up what they hid done "until they abandoned it. The excuse they ma le of bad weather driving them out is ah balderdash, as no finer weather has ever been experienced in Oregon i.ince they have been at work, even up to present time. Sft'lers up the Suntiair, both in Linn and Marion counties are forced to conclude either that these .-uryeyors do not understand their business or have been purpast ly delaying the work. The land here ought to be surveyed, eothat the hundreds of actual settlers can acquire title to the land they are no.v holding only by 'fquatters' righis," but would seem from th:s summer's ex.ierier.ee that aoiu" ;nore competent surveyors wou'd have to be given the contract be fore it can be ilone. If these gentlemen, who under took to nuke this survey can oiler any legitimate excuse for tamper ing with the work, ar.d delaying the settlement of that district for mother year, the settlers there would be glad to know what it is. Sureyor General Byars should inquire into this matter, and tee that the work is place! incom petent hands as speedily as pj.-ssi-ble. In range 4 the township boundary had already beeu run, and the unfinished work could have bre-i easily completed had any sort if dillig'.nce or inclina tio:i to so been manherted by the surveyors.
