At a late hour last night infor
mation was received in in this city
of the killing of Henry Ingram by
his brother Frank at the farm o'
the latter five miles south of this
city. The shooting was the result
of a quarrel over the division of the
Ingram estate and a contest over
the terms of the will left by their
mother. Threats had previously
been made by the dead brother
and several shots had been lired
on a former encounter. Several
.lays ago the Hervi.u publi-hed
an cceount of a farm hand on
Frank Ingram's place discovering
a man prowling around the house,
and how he drove him oil' with a
gun. Night before last the man
returned ag-tiu and was armed,
but was again driven off by the
hired man, after some more shoot
ing. Late last night the same
hired man came to this city in hot
haste on horseback, seeking the
sheriff and a physician, and bcar
ng the information that Frank
Ingram had shot and killed the
prowler, who was his brother,
iJenry Jngiam.
It appears that about 8 a'clock
in the evening, Henry was dis
covered approaching ihe house
armed with a gun, Fiank In
gram, with a levolver in each
hand, met him and commanded
him to throw up his hands, and
on his raising his gun (o shoot,
opened lire upon him, killing him
almost instantly.
The sheriff, coroner, Dr. W. II.
Davis and others left for the set ne,
but at a late hour had not re
turned. The tiuarrel was provoked by
the brother who was killed, he
havii glaid in wait lor the purpose
of killing his brother on several
different occasions. Fiank Ingram
seemed equally as determined not
to be driven away, and had asked
the sheriff if he would be allowed
to carry a revolver. Both brothers
expected bloodshed and were well
armed. It was a unst unfortunate
family quarrel, w inch ended in a
deplorable manner.

shot him twice through the heart.
Ingram claimed that he heard
another man running and also
shut at him. A short time after
wards he heard his fallen brother
make a slight noise, and shot him
again in the face, lie claimed
that up to that t ine he did not
know who he was shooting at.

hibition of the manufacture of and
sale of intoxicants, and the aboli-

tional exhibit of the world's fair.
He has already received the first
invoice of material for the exhibit,
which wid be a comprehensive
one. This invoice is from the
schools of Ashland and will be
added to from time to time by the
several cities, towns, villages and
hamlets in the state. Oresron's
! school exhibit at the world's fair
will consist of kindergaiten work,
school drawing free hand and
pen work school apparatus,
models, diagrams, copies, il'ustra
tions, statistics, maps, historical
and geographical and general
specimens of school wcrk. It ie
expected that our higher institu
tions of learning colleges and
universities will furnish statistics
and illustrations of buildings
libraries, mu?eums, collections,
courses of etudy, catalcgu-s, etc.
Piof. McElroy will be engaged in
this wort all fall and has fond
hopes of preparing such a collec
tion as may be a credit to the great
State of Oregon."
We understand that a systematic
work is to ha inaugurated in this
matter, and our Albany public

sistants will take a deep interest
in the matter, and send forward
a full and creditable exhibit. The
