Fellows is perhaps 45 years old, and has a wife and family. Tl e charge of rape was withdrawn, and a charge of lew d and laac vious cohabitation substituted, under which he is now in jail. It is sa'nl that additional charges of a similar nature are likely to be preferred, charging him with hav ing enticed away other girls of tender years, and' also for and in decent assault upon a married woman of Scio, from which it would appear that he richly deserves vigorous punishment. Fellows is a man of pleasing ad dress when sober and sought to gain some literary fame as a cor respondent under the non de plume of "Brick Dust." Ii the chances against him are true he deserves a lenglity term in the penitentiary. New Dam at Grant' Paas. The Union Pacific company have decided to fix up the old " block house at the upper Cascades and preserve it from decay, as it is an object of interest to touribts, ami wiil become more and more so a the years psss by. There are but few of the old block houses u hich the early settlers built as a ineam- I defense against the Indians left standing. A few years ago there was one in the Klickitat valley on he road to Yakima, and one at Camp Hotkius, away up on the Luckiamute, hut it is probable thai if either of these is lett it s a mere ruin. The block house at the Cascade in full view from the cars of the Union Paoilic will be long an object of interest. It is lh intention of the company to make a picnic ground on their proieny at tue uacades, loth at lionneviile and side of the river 011 the opposite NolhiuK In It, Since thj recent wreck at Lake I-uhinh several have expressed an inteie t in seeing the Southern Pacific overland continue to ui-e the west side track between Port and and Alhanv. The writer does not believe that there are many citizens in Albany w ho would oppose such a system of public improvements as has al nady been mapped out by the psesent council and published in the Hkkalp, but there are a few, and those few are men who would not serve the will of the people as councilraen during the next term. Judge Stearns, of Portland, lias rendered a decision in a suit for a commission which will be read with interest by all real estate brokers. Some time ago M. J. Clohessey, representing J. Duval, the owner of a certain tract of land, gave J. Watson & Co., real estate dealer, an option on it for $::200. The latter accepted it be lie .ing that they had a customer who would pay them $4000 for the pioperty. The would-be buyer, however, withdrew his offer, for feit iigtia) deposit. A few dys prior to the expiration of Clohes sey's bond he offered Watson A Co. a deed to the property for $3-'00. which for certain reasons they dec! ined to accept, and sub sequently Duval sold it for 13000. V. atson A Co. began suit against Duval and Clohessey to reeover the difference between f 3200 and 30io, tut Judge Stearns decided that in view of the non acceptance nf the deed when it was offered them, they were entitled to noth ing beyond the $50 forfeit money Gone With Another Man.
