Although there was no trial

complaining witness, some of the

enticed her into a room at the
residence of her sister, who was
ill, and locked the door. He then
occupied the room with her during

wiHhes. and had continued such
intimacy up to the time of his
arrest.
Fellows is perhaps 45 years old,
and has a wife and family. Tl e
charge of rape was withdrawn,
and a charge of lew d and laac vious
cohabitation substituted, under
which he is now in jail.
It is sa'nl that additional charges
of a similar nature are likely to be
preferred, charging him with hav
ing enticed away other girls of
tender years, and' also for and in
decent assault upon a married
woman of Scio, from which it
would appear that he richly
deserves vigorous punishment.
Fellows is a man of pleasing ad
dress when sober and sought to
gain some literary fame as a cor
respondent under the non de
plume of "Brick Dust." Ii the
chances against him are true he
deserves a lenglity term in the
penitentiary.

The Union Pacific company have
decided to fix up the old " block
house at the upper Cascades and
preserve it from decay, as it is an
object of interest to touribts, ami

the people have already voted.
What ia required now is to elect
council men who will carry through
this good work already begun, and
who are known to be in favor of
this progressive, more. There
shodld De no half way grounds ni
minting matters on this question.
The writer does not believe that
there are many citizens in Albany
w ho would oppose such a system
of public improvements as has al
nady been mapped out by the
psesent council and published in
the Hkkalp, but there are a few,
and those few are men who would
not serve the will of the people as
councilraen during the next term.

Lost a fat Commission.
Judge Stearns, of Portland, lias
rendered a decision in a suit for a
commission which will be read
with interest by all real estate
brokers. Some time ago M. J.
Clohessey, representing J. Duval,
the owner of a certain tract of
land, gave J. Watson & Co., real
estate dealer, an option on it for
$::200. The latter accepted it be
lie .ing that they had a customer
who would pay them $4000 for the
pioperty. The would-be buyer,
however, withdrew his offer, for
feit iigtia) deposit. A few dys
prior to the expiration of Clohes
sey's bond he offered Watson A
Co. a deed to the property for
$3-'00. which for certain reasons
they dec! ined to accept, and sub
sequently Duval sold it for 13000.

Duval and Clohessey to reeover
the difference between f 3200 and
30io, tut Judge Stearns decided
that in view of the non acceptance
nf the deed when it was offered
them, they were entitled to noth
ing beyond the $50 forfeit money

vallis, complains that his wife,
only 18 years of age, has gone

himself fond of horses as well as a
pretty wife, mairied last Septem
ber. For a time all went well
until Mrs. Sharpe cot to going with
other men to theatres, etc., and

ing Corvallis with a woman known
as "Dutch Annie" and a railroad
brakeman. Sharpe followed, onlv
to find that Mrs. S. had taken tin
with "a party by the name of
Jones," and flatly
