BEARDSLEY, GENERAL AGENT, Office on Broadalbin Street, near First ON TO BOISE CITY. Citiiess if Boise ia Caifersace With The Orsgoo Paeifio People. Mr. James A. Pinney, mayor of Boise Litv, is. I. Cortee, ex-sni- veyor general, K. Z. Johnson, a prominent attorney, II. B. Last- man audC.W. Moon, capitalists of Boise, were in this city .yesterday for the purpose oi presenting the matter of the extension of the Oregon Pacific railroad from this city to Boise City to the Oregon Pacific people. Mr., Pinney had letters oi intro duction to Mayor Cowan, the editor of the Heuai.d, and other citizens oi Albany. Tho party left yesterday tor Corvallis to con fer with the managers of the road. One of the party was interview ed by a Hkkai.d reporter. He said that the people of Boise City were deeply interested in Albany's prosperity and they wanted conn ection with the Oregon Pacific road and would work for its immediate extension t an eastern connection at Boise. They expected to be joined at Corvallis by Governor Slump of Idaho, when they w ould formally present the matter to the managers of the road. There is a rich mining, stock and grain district to be opened up by the new road and these men de sire to use every effort to secure such connection, in which enter prise leading capitalists there are interested. The exact proposition made to the Oregon Pacific was not made public, bnt it is understood that the new project has received considerable attention among the Idaho people and will not be dis pleasing to the Oregon Paclie com pany. Should these gentlemen, after their hurried trip, return to Albany they will be tendered the freedom of the city, and be accorded the heartiest co-operation and assist ance of citizens here in the fur therance of their undertaking, as the interests of the two cities arc identical, and it is a mutual hope that they will be connected by the Oregon Pacitic road in the ne;ir future. I.ob of Stork. 'We had a terrible winter in Eastern Oregon," said Senator Xorval, of Union county, yester day. "In Lake county the loss of stock was 50 per cent., so Senator Cogswell tells me. That was the maximum loss. The loss in East ern Oregon, as a whole, amounted to 33Jj percent. In Union county the loss was very slight, as the stockmen were well provided with hay. Owing to the late spring everything is backward in Eastern Oregon. A week ago ice formed three-quarters of an inch thick in Union county. The prophet for large crops is fine. Wheat sowing has about finished, but no oat or barley has been sown." Oregon Coal. G. E. Cannon, a coal prospector for a long time in the employ of the X. P. Railroad Co., was here last Friday. He had just returned from a trip into Coos county, and on his way from the coast, reports an abundance of lignite coal, all the way from the Scottsburg to Drain. Faull, of the state rail road commission on being ques- j tioned the other day relative to the work of that body said : "We have a regular monthly meeting, and the May session will chiefly be devoted, I" suppose, to the consideration of the claims of Mr. Strickland of Kamela. Mr. Strickland has had some com plaint against the Union Pacific, claiming that additional side track.- should be furnished him. Ilia first request was that thestate railioad commission make an in spection of the situation at j Kamela. But this the law makes j no provision for. His second, that the commission furnish him , and his witnesses transportation to our Salem cilice ; we could not do that. His third proposition was that the commissioners should go to Kamela to hear the testi mony of his witnesses there. These propositions wcr-- wholly out of keeping with the require ments and provision .. the statutes. "Our only office, ace rding to the law of the legi-!at"re, is at Salem. It is true provision was also made for an office at Portland, but no funds were appropriated tn maintain such an office. "At the next legislature a re commendation w ill be 'resented from us, providing for the main tenance of our principal office at Portland, lhat is the arrange ment which should be made, in California the office of the state railroad commission is at San j evamino their complete line of Francisco, not Sacramento.
